Trout missed a really big chunk of the season. I can't see the logic to go with Trout.

Still great numbers, but that has to eliminate you from the conversation. He missed what 50 games?

I'd really love to see it go to Judge. Pull off the ROTY+MVP like Ichiro.

Trout's gonna hit 50 next year.

Well you know what camp I'm in. Judge is a freaking rookie with 50 plus homers an ops over 1.000. 7.9 War .421 obp and 120 + walks for starters

Yankees likely don't make the playoffs without him.

The argument against him is he strikes out alot and had a rough second half. But then came roaring back with a monster September.

That's my homer argument. But I think it's a pretty good one.

if not for a bad September it's incredible he almost caught Altuve and Judge in WAR. I would still vote for him because it's clear he had the best season and the angels were in the hunt for the WC the whole season and the media really treasures those things.

I vote Trout because dude is only 26 and already has the highest WAR in Angels history.

They probably will look at the fact he had a rough September during an important WC hunt and the fact his team didn't make the playoffs too.

Things to also be taken into consideration.

He seemed like the kind of guy you have in place for developmental purposes then you can get someone who has a proven track record as a manager to take over. It'll be interesting to see what the Phils do in regard to that.

                  - According to Bob Nightengale the Cardinals will be pursuing a trade with the Blue Jays for Josh Donaldson. If i'm Shapiro and Atkins I listen long and hard then try to clean em out. After the Encarnacion imbroglio they need to either sign Donaldson long term or if they trade him they have to get at least one high performance MLB guy and a couple close to MLB ready prospects. I have a feeling this will be a major story during the winter meetings this offseason.
Mackanin will be staying in the Phillies organization though. His contract was extended to be a special assistant to the GM.

That's great to hear. If I can draw a parallel to fandom of the local nine here Mackanin seems to be in a situation very much like Bobby Mattick was with the Jays early in their history. He was a longtime scout who took the managerial reigns and was very much familiar with the young kids who were on the roster. He really helped to develop them and handed the reigns off to Bobby Cox. Mattick continued to serve in the Jays organization as a scout and minor league coordinator for years until his death.

I'm glad to see the Phils doing right by Mackanin here.

Either keep him around long term or get something HUGE in return. Like going after their top prospects like Reyes,Kelly. Cards had 5 guys in MLBs top 100 prospect list(Reyes,Kelly,Flaherty,O'Neill,Bader). If they want Donaldson, they better be prepared to give up more than 2 of those guys.

The Indians finished with the highest team pitching WAR in MLB history. 6th highest run differential in the expansion era (1961-present).

The Dodgers got the most hype this year, but the Indians were baseball's best team in the regular season.

Speaking of Dodgers, this year's 104 wins are the most they've had since moving to California.

Most wins by any team in baseball since 2004, yet they weren't even top 3 in run differential (Indians, Yankees, and Astros round out the top 3).

I actually prefer seasons where we see some "top heaviness" in the standings. It makes for tremendous playoffs (already, this year looks like it will be amazing). That's why a season like 1998 was so much fun, IMO. The Astros, the Braves, and the Yankees all had over 100 wins.
