I really wish this WC playoff would be a best of three.

        1. I love the do-or-die drama of the single game.

        2. Best of three WC series would push the World Series further into November. I like baseball, but it's not a cold-weather sport.

I agree with your second point. But baseball, all year long, is at least a 3-game series wherein the better/hotter teams...just a one-game and advance is a crap-shoot game where "luck" truly is a large factor.

Call it a joke all you want, but that Wild Card Game between Oakland and Kansas City in 2014 was one of the most exciting games I've seen.

Fast forward a few weeks and that same Kansas City team is in Game 7 of the World Series (against San Francisco, the winner of...*GASP* the NL Wild Card Game). But, you know, "lol have fun bros".

I don't like it...hated getting screwed in 2012, but I guess the retort would be "don't want to play in a 1 game playoff...win your division". MLB had to do something...I'll never forget the last day of the season (I think 2010) when New York and Tampa were both in play for the AL East title, yet they both approached it like a spring training series because they were both in the playoffs and didn't care about winning the division. There has to be some incentive to winning the division, so this is what they did.

The fact that some of the games have been good doesn't mean that the logic behind it is sound.

So the answer is "win your divison or lol I guess oh well if you don't but you finish 6 games ahead of the next team and now you have to face them in a one game playoff"?

It's completely illogical. It possesses zero logic whatsoever.

Look at all the teams that treated today and this past weekend like a spring training game, with the mass line changes, taking players out for ovation's sake, playing players at all 9 positions for gimmick's sake.

Rob Manfred and morons in baseball media are hellbent on bitching and moaning about and changing everything else but on this, this idiocy---this TRAVESTY---they're silent and they'll remain silent. They love the manufactured, fake drama.

I think one of the reasons (other than what's been said already) for the 2nd Wild Card is that it keeps interest alive in a lot more cities than ever before. There's also the fact that for the most part you're not going to get the argument of "this team had such a good record they should've been in the postseason".

I'm not going to say it's a great thing though some of the games have been AWESOME but I can see the reasoning behind it.

Matrix doesn't like the Wild Card game because it ended Chipper Jones' career; he's the ultimate grudge holder.

Personally, I love it. It keeps more teams alive for the playoffs, more fanbases interested in their teams, and it puts a premium on winning your division. It also makes things a bit easier for frontrunning teams too. Wild Card teams before the advent of the WC game had it too easy. Now they have to burn their ace and win a toss-up game just to play in the LDS. And above all else, MLB is an entertainment product, and there are few things in sports as entertaining as a do-or-die October baseball game (imo).

You could use a variant of this argument against having a Wild Card at all tbh.

Or seven game series'. If you couldn't beat them the first game, why give you more chances?

Or the playoffs altogether, especially if they ever go back to a balanced schedule.
