Re: MLB Off-Topic
You're probably right that it's more of a Torre/Hernandez issue so we'll see how it plays out. I have no love for Hernandez. The guy is one of the worst umps in the game and has consistently shown disregard for everyone around him. I have a sneaking suspicion he might take this to the media and do interviews which would make things a bit uncomfortable for MLB. In the end though, they'll probably do something to shut him up.Nah. What a suit like this does is it belittles people who actually DO suffer legitimate racial discrimination and are also competent at their jobs. Joe Torre might not like Angel Hernandez and maybe that's a conflict of interest, but to say it's racially motivated--Joe Torre of all people; a guy who's managed hundreds (thousands?) of diverse players with zero complaints--is idiotic. Let's not lose sight of the fact that Angel Hernandez is doing exactly what Torre accused him of years ago; Hernandez is glory hounding/ump-showing. Crusading for more diversity in the workplace is, at best, a tangential consideration here.
If MLB/MLB's partners are not doing a good job diversifying the umpire group, then that's a separate issue.

Yeah, I mean we can look at stats as baseball fans and easily figure out that guys with 15 K/9 and ~3-4 BB/9 are going to be awfully effective, but explaining how these guys are so adept at getting those stats makes the article worth reading. Is it incredible velocity? Inhuman durability and arm strength? Nasty stuff with late movement all covered in hair? Some sort of unique pitch ala Mariano Rivera or deceptive motion?Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

And some baseball fans couldn't care any less about getting that deep. So I'll just accept that Boston's closer in at least one stat is the greatest of all time.Yeah, I mean we can look at stats as baseball fans and easily figure out that guys with 15 K/9 and ~3-4 BB/9 are going to be awfully effective, but explaining how these guys are so adept at getting those stats makes the article worth reading. Logan Morrison seems like he'd be a hit at parties...
Rays slugger Logan Morrison was critical of Gary Sanchez's getting a shot in the Home Run Derby. "Gary's a great player," Morrison said, "but he shouldn't be in the Home Run Derby.''

Re: MLB Off-Topic
The studies have shown since 2015 something has happened. I think it was something like the ball is hit an average of 7 feet further. There's more 450+ foot HR already than 2013 and 2014. 2017 is projected to be the best HR season in mlb history. 2000 aka height of steroid era was previous best.Blue Jays starting pitcher Marcus Stroman is blaming MLB for the rise in blisters mainly due to the idea that there's a new ball being used without anyone knowing it. (Let's be honest, there's been at least 2 studies that say the ball has been juiced or altered in some way) Anywho, here's the pertinent comment:
I don't mind juiced ball. More offense is better. Though the problem like mentioned is how this ball is giving pit her after pitcher blisters.
The timer has made it so much better. 2015 was the best one I've seen because of that storybook ending.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
The real story Morrison should stick with is why MLB is not inviting someone who is third in homeruns.
Focusing on Gary is the wrong way to go about this.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I've said it before but I'd like to see a skills challenge. The HRD can be the main attraction but a challenge such as the best from 1st to 3rd...best range...best position player arm...best catcher pop-up to 2nd...best DP combo...etc.
I would definitely watch that...nothing arcade either like what the NFL did...make it realistic.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Do you remember the skills challenges from the 1980's? They used to do outfield throws into the "net" (think Tom Emanski drills), catcher's throwing down to 2B, etc. It was a lot of fun...the HRD then was the finale from the whole skills day. Last one I can recall was circa 1985, so I don't know when they quit doing it.I've said it before but I'd like to see a skills challenge. Re: MLB Off-Topic
Now that you mention it, I think there was a "relay" competition where teams of 2 (outfielder/infielder) would be timed on their ability to relay a ball that caromed off the wall to the plate."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. That's exactly the point that Amsinger and Preston Wilson made last night. They pretty much got the gist of LoMo's frustration but tearing down other people rather than building yourself up negates your argument.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Best bat flip...best brushback pitch...best chirping from the dugout...best head-first slide into first base...best getting thrown out at 2nd base admiring a ball that nearly became a home run...best manager rant to get ejected (hint: Phillip Wellman always wins this last one). I can get on board with these additions.I've said it before but I'd like to see a skills challenge.
