MLB should countersue him for malpractice, lol.
Thing is, reading the details of his suit he does offer up some compelling data that makes MLB look insensitive at best or slightly racist at worst. He even brings up the fact that he's consistently had good marks (How the hell he's accomplished that i'll never know) and how in an umpires union of just under 100 umps there are only 10 of visible ethnic/racial minorities within said organization.

So on the face of it. I was like you, ready to make a crack about this lawsuit but there does seem to be some legitimacy to it.

I understand his feeling that he may be personally targeted, but race hasn't a thing to do with it.

Gary and Judge in the Home Run Derby, haven't been this excited for it in a while. Hope Judge takes Stanton's crown.

Recently read a very interesting book about life in AAA baseball (from managers, players, umpires and even broadcasters):
"Where Nobody Knows Your Name: Life In the Minor Leagues of Baseball"

The umpire they follow in the book makes it sound like once you're in the major's, it's almost impossible to get removed.

Maybe that's how Hernandez got mostly positive grades over the course of his career.

This lawsuit thing looks like its Joe Torre that Angel Hernandez is specificaly targeting.
Torre may very well have a vendetta against Hernandez but I dont for one second believe its motivated by discrimination. Whta it seems is, Hernandez is butt-hurt he hasnt been picked to be on WS crew.

Am I the only one who has lost interest in the Home Run Derby? I used to watch it every year, but a couple of years ago I just seemingly lost interest.

But this year we get Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, and Bour.

Frazier winning in 2015 actually got me more interested in the Derby. The way he came back from so far behind in every round in front of his home fans. We have a chance for that again this year with Stanton and Bour.

The timer breathed new life into the HRD, that's for dang sure. Not taking so many pitches now.

the only way I'd watch the all-star HR derby if I was there in person. TV doesnt cut it for me.
same way with the NBA slam-dunk contest and 3-point shootout.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Marcus Stroman is blaming MLB for the rise in blisters mainly due to the idea that there's a new ball being used without anyone knowing it. (Let's be honest, there's been at least 2 studies that say the ball has been juiced or altered in some way) Anywho, here's the pertinent comment:

                        NEW YORK —

Marcus Stroman has an idea who's to blame for all the nagging blisters bothering pitchers lately. He's pointing a finger at Major League Baseball.

"I feel like it's an epidemic that's happening across the big leagues now, a bunch of pitchers getting blisters, guys who have never had blisters before. So for MLB to turn their back to it, I think that's kind of crazy," the Toronto Blue Jays right-hander said. "I have no theory. But obviously, I mean, it's not a coincidence that it's happening to so many guys all of a sudden. It's not a coincidence."

Asked if he was implying all the blisters have something to do with an altered baseball, he would only repeat: "It's not a coincidence."

The batter that drove in the first run. In MLB, the hit that puts the winning team ahead for the final time is considered the game-winner. If say, Aaron Judge hits a HR in the 1st to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead, then the Yankees build up a 7-0 lead before hanging on to win 7-6, Judge is credited with the GWRBI.

BTW, the NHL is the other way around. If the Penguins race to a 7-0 lead and then end up winning 7-3, whoever scored the 4th Pittsburgh goal is credited with the game winner.

Both are junk stats, but hockey's is worse, as this is also how goalie wins are determined.

Example: Henrik Lundqvist is in net as the Rangers have a 4-0 lead after 2 periods. Hank gets hurt during the 2nd intermission and Ondrej Pavelec replaces him for the 3rd. The Rangers score another couple goals to lead 6-0 midway through the 3rd. Pavelec then collapses and allows 4 goals on 4 shots, but the Rangers win 6-4 anyway. Who gets the goalie win? Pavelec, because he was in net when the "game-winning" goal (ie the Rangers 5th goal) was scored.

Nah. What a suit like this does is it belittles people who actually DO suffer legitimate racial discrimination and are also competent at their jobs. Joe Torre might not like Angel Hernandez and maybe that's a conflict of interest, but to say it's racially motivated--Joe Torre of all people; a guy who's managed hundreds (thousands?) of diverse players with zero complaints--is idiotic. Let's not lose sight of the fact that Angel Hernandez is doing exactly what Torre accused him of years ago; Hernandez is glory hounding/ump-showing. Crusading for more diversity in the workplace is, at best, a tangential consideration here.

If MLB/MLB's partners are not doing a good job diversifying the umpire group, then that's a separate issue.
