Agreed. I have said for a LONG time that it's borderline criminal.

I have a friend whose nephew was drafted out of high school. The kid played 14 years in the minors, never made more than $25K/year (this was in the late 1990's/early 2000's), lived in apartments/road buses, ate fast food, never had enough to support a family. After all of that, he never got called up to the show...retired at age 32 with very little in savings. Since he hadn't gone to college and wasn't trained in any other area of work, the only job he could get was coaching baseball.

I am willing to bet that this is the story of 90% of these guys in the minors...there is so much money in baseball that MLB should be taking care of them. I would like to see the following:

1) Pay them. I get that they aren't going to get "millions", but they should be able to make well above poverty level.

2) Provide a pension system that's worth something. I read an article recently where a minor leaguer who spent 19 seasons bouncing around retired and got his "lifetime" pension check. It was $651...that's it. Criminal.

3) Provide education. So many of these guys skip college to go right to the minors. MLB should be providing an opportunity for these guys to get classes done in the off season, tech training, etc, so they have other options outside of baseball when they hang them up..

There are other things they could do, but these are the big ones, IMO.

BTW - since 1976 the "salary floor" in the MLB has gone up over 2,500%. In that time, the Minors salary has gone up 70%. The average minor leaguer is making between $7-15K.

I do have a question though as I'm curious. Who exactly pays the MiLB players? Is it the affiliate, with whatever money they bring in as revenue (or budget?) for a fiscal year or is the onus on the major league club?

I don't know where he got that info and it's Frank Isola so grain of salt and all that.

Both teams play with short right field lines (though Boston goes from short to long in a matter of feet).

If they set it up so right field is the shorter end, it would make sense for both clubs.

Hrm, It looks doable

I kind of forgot that it was reversible, as they moved all the stand in by a fair bit to convert it into a soccer stadium, but if they reverse it then they could make a better sized field

It's not the exact same dimensions, but if they could do baseball at the Coliseum I don't see why they couldn't do it at Wembley.

Yeah, 5 infielders. Left Field was 251 feet with a 42-foot screeen. 28 feet shorter than Polo Grounds lol.

That reminds me of Pasadena High School's field. It fits into a rectangle space next to the football field. The right field line was 210 with a 35 foot tall fence, and CF was 415.

The weirdest HS field I've ever seen.

Did you see this one I posted about?

And I just saw the Pasadena HS one on Google Maps. They must have changed some things around because RF is now about 300 feet there.
