For this and baseball, the deliverance needs to be earned in order to feel genuine. That's all.

Yup. This is the line in the sand. The "red line" as it were.

No compromise on anything that makes baseball not baseball.

Yes, we do. And we're hoping it very much stays that way.

Extra innings stays the way it always has been. If you want a guy on second base to start an inning then hope he hits a double.

The DH should've been that red line.

I don't know why the runner would get a PA since he didn't step up to the plate. I'm sure the stat would work the same as for a pinch runner.

It really seems like people are starting to reach for reasons to **** on the rule at this point.
That is what I thought, but when listening to a discussion regarding the new minors rule two radio hosts stated it would be the leadoff man just goes to 2nd. Maybe that isn't what they meant, but I thought the rule had been tweaked. Regardless, it still creates issues. Does the runner who starts on 2nd get credit for a run scored? So, you make an out and get to start on 2nd...and get credit for scoring a run?

Do you like the rule? I have only ever seen this used in rec league softball leagues...just doesn't seem like it belongs anywhere near a professional level of the sport.

I don't care about the rule because I don't watch minor league baseball so I'll never have to worry about it. Everyone seems to be ignoring the reasoning given about the rule. Those reasons don't apply to major league baseball, which is why I think the worry about how this will affect the mlb level is worthless.

I just think people are overreacting like with all of the other changes that have happened that have not negatively affected the game.

I hope you are right, but they specifically said they wanted to see this at the big league level and would "try it out" at the lower levels to see how it played out before implementing it. I have no doubt that Rob Manfred would LOVE to bring this to the big league level.

Sometimes you try things and say they failed just to shut the bellyachers up. Hopefully, that's what baseball is doing here.

This article is just one I found from back during the WBC last year...

They also discussed it during the broadcast of WBC games...I didn't think this was unknown.

I guess I just take a different message from that article...or the entire sequence of events where even rules Manfred had the opportunity to unilaterally put in place, he did not. I'm not worried about the majors, but agree with what he's saying about the minors. Do people want to sit around for an 18 inning AA game?
