Re: MLB Off-Topic
Lucky you, then. It bothers me to no end.
Anything that separates me from the field kills the immersion factor for me that much more. Whether it is an extra row of people, sitting in an extra deck, having an extra walkway in front of me (or those planters in the outfield of some stadiums), or any sort of screen.
Might as well just watch it through my television screen, then. AT&T Park is too expensive for me anyway, but they'll be sure to not get my lower deck dollars in foul ground behind that net.
That being said, I'm all for a net behind home plate. I've explained why before. They are great seats, but if I had a choice I would rather pick the seats in the same row that is not behind the net, more off to the side.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I sat behind the dugout unobstructed last year and it was incredible. Sat behind home plate during a Kershaw start once a couple years ago and the net annoyed the **** out of me. I wouldn't spend any real money to watch from behind a net ever. What might not bother you might bother someone else. I don't understand this insistence that everyone's perspective and preferences must be the same. Worse yet, the mocking.
I'd rather (and do) sit on the third level anyway so I can see everything.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 03-27-2018, 02:15 PM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I always leaned on the side of “people should pay attention” until I sat third base line last year and heard the sound of a foul line drive hit the empty seat a few rows over when I looked down to take a bite of my food. Don’t want that in or around my head area thank you.Last edited by BunnyHardaway; 03-27-2018, 03:50 PM.Comment

Didn't you say you lost respect for Joe Torre thinking the extra innings minor league rule may lead to a more entertaining game?Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

You're right.
Blzer, did you see it in person or is there a picture out there? How bad is it really? Are we looking at the beginning of Arena league baseball?Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: MLB Off-Topic
The only way it’s a problem is if you make it a point to be annoyed by it. It’s barely noticeable if you’re paying attention to literally anything else going on. If a thin layer of netting that’s preventing fans from being hit by flying balls and/or bats effects immersion, that’s a you problem, not a net problem.
I'll never let this die though, on a personal level that is. This, the automatic walks, NL obtaining a DH in the future possibly, Bonds maybe not getting into the hall... never. If I don't bring it up again (and I'm sure you won't want me to), that doesn't mean I've turned to being okay with the idea.
When they said they were going to extend the netting, I initially thought it was going to stop short of the dugout. Then I thought it was just going to be a low-hanging net for the first few rows, or slanting on its way down. I couldn't believe what I saw in the game as far as how long it extended. I'll capture a shot of it to show you.
And note, I'm not capturing a picture to show how "obstructive or unobstructive" it is, I'm capturing it to show how far out it goes. Arena League Baseball it almost becomes.
I wonder if other teams are doing netting to this extreme.Last edited by Blzer; 03-27-2018, 05:22 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
At any rate, here it is at AT&T Park (I drew in Paint on the last one to outline its height and reach):

That sounds like the pace of play talk that's been going on since Manfred took office. It's only a problem because he keeps talking about it.

Well, I saw it on TV, but I've seen the live netting before since I've been to ball games, so I know what it's like.
