    Re: MLB Off-Topic

I go 7/10 on the postseason one.

    I got these wrong:
    2013 (I said 2011)
    1995 (I said 2007)
    2010 (I said 2011)

I got 7/11 on country music star/mlb reliever:
    Chasen Bradford
    Jackson Stephens
    Cole Swindell
    Chris Young*

Just saw that Trevor Story leads MLB this year in 450+ foot home runs, with 7.

Saw someone asking a question about best playoff game you've ever watched. For me it's game 4 of the '04 ALCS. Sox got their *** kicked the night (19-8) before to fall in the 3-0 hole. That game obviously gave a jolt back to the Sox and it had the iconic moment of that Roberts steal in the 9th. So I went to back to look at who started the game and how he fared during the regular season. This is what I came up with.
I can't believe our fate laid in the hands of a dude (Derek Lowe) with a 5.42 ERA, 1.615 WHIP, a 4.26 FIP (whatever the hell that is) and an 89 ERA+. And he gave up 29 runs over 21.1IP against the Yankees. That's insane.

Exact same as you. I knew what the last one was as well but I just misplaced the year by... well... a year.

He should just take the suspension and get it over with. The first 40 games matter but aren't nearly as weighted in importance as any other 40 game stretch in the season.

It will continue on Opening Day (assuming he's even on a roster then which is no guarantee). He's already served 11 games retroactively. So he has 29 games left to go.

Do you think the Cubs part ways with him after this?

If they do, I'm sure there will be no shortage of suitors out there willing to make offers.

I think maybe a 30% chance the Cubs just cut bait on him. All baseball clubs bill themselves as "family friendly" and the Cubs have really pushed that aspect throughout the ages, especially with the team being family-owned. We've seen recent pushback elsewhere with the Roberto Osuna thing and the "Me Too" movement in general. And, after adding Aroldis Chapman a couple of years ago, Theo will have to think hard about what "signals" the organization is putting out there in terms of being accepting of certain types of behavior and players with certain backgrounds.

The devil is really in the details. Addy could recover from a 40-game suspension just like other guys come back from drug suspensions, but to some degree it probably matters how nasty the details are (which we don't know, other than it was a slam dunk for the commish and Addy accepted the punishment immediately).

The cynic in me sees the probability of him returning linked to how easy it will be to find an everyday shortstop. Sliding Baez over would make that really easy. Plus, Addy hasn't exactly been playing like an All-Star lately...so...I dunno.

I want to point out that I don't condone domestic battery or anything of the sort.

I say that because in this situation I think the Cubs are in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. If they keep Russell then they are viewed as being insensitive to what happened. But if they let him go and someone else picks him up, the discussion will quickly go from how can team x sign him given what he's accused of, to he deserves a second chance and it will blow over and the next "scandal" will take its place.

And then if Russell has an all-star season and his replacement struggles, then Cubs fans and possibly media will talk about how the Cubs should've given him a second chance etc..etc..

And as you said, the view on Russell will depend on what details are revealed.
