Didn't know he was already suspended retroactively. That's what happened with Osuna as well.

I say that because in this situation I think the Cubs are in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. If they keep Russell then they are viewed as being insensitive to what happened. But if they let him go and someone else picks him up, the discussion will quickly go from how can team x sign him given what he's accused of, to he deserves a second chance and it will blow over and the next "scandal" will take its place.

And then if Russell has an all-star season and his replacement struggles, then Cubs fans and possibly media will talk about how the Cubs should've given him a second chance etc..etc..

And as you said, the view on Russell will depend on what details are revealed.
It's far from an optimal situation, but it's something that Addy brought on himself with his actions. With great fame and wealth comes great scrutiny. If it was really bad, then maybe Addy doesn't deserve the privilege of playing in MLB anymore or being a potential role model. Devil is in the details. I just hope the Cubs handle the situation thoughtfully whether dumping him or keeping him. I trust Theo to handle it well, and to handle most things well, other than maybe signing certain free agent pitchers

I also don't condone his actions but I do feel we have a system in place that punishes people for their actions. Whether it's the U.S. justice system or an MLB panel.

He got 40 games? That's his punishment from baseball. I don't think he should be traded or released after the fact if that's the system agreed to. Could it be better? I guess but MLB isn't and shouldn't try to step in for the U.S justice system.

Whatever his outcome he brought it upon himself. People will always second guess the consequences of a teams decision after the fact often changing their own initial thoughts when the incident happened in the first place. He’s not being banned or anything, he keeps his nose clean here on out it will wash over professionally and be better for him and all involved personally

I don't think it's so cut and dried. Not that I'm advocating for more punishment, but I think it's each team's prerogative if they want to roster players that have committed X, Y, or Z in the past. He's not under contract and the Cubs owe him nothing beyond this year (other than the counseling/support that Theo mentioned). Nothing wrong with dumping him at all, whether he's committed a prosecutable offense or not.

I know it'll never happen due to player safety (and I don't begrudge anyone that) but man, the HBP thing bothers me when a guy gets on base based on the most minuscule touch of the ball on the uniform.

It's more of a "that's just the way it is" gripe from me. I'm not looking for any change really.

Yea I feel you on that, I think they see it as an extension of your person and that’s why it’s done that way. I honestly don’t mind it either way as it’s not something that happens a ton. One of those “damn it” if it’s an opponent and a “heck yea” if it’s one of your guys thing in my mind

I understand this POV, but I don't know how you could do it any other way without causing issues. A line has to be drawn somewhere.

Lol. I remember when people used to rag on Bonds for wearing that arm gear, cuz it meant he could get hit without it really hurting. Now EVERYONE has something on their arm.

Short of a guy walking up in one of those inflatable sumo outfits, I'm not worried about it too much.

I meant to read that the other day and couldn't get around to it. I only got through the part where they were calling their own employees criminals through an in house rating system [emoji38]. What in the world man?

There's a rumor floating around here in Vegas (has some legs) that there are plans to tear down one of the Casinos out here (Rio Hotel and Casino) and build an MLB Ballpark. The site would be 100 acres so plenty of space and plenty for parking unlike the Raiders stadium. This site is 40 acres more than the Raiders current site.

Guess it's a wait and see, but it would make sense.
