Something in the "Today I Learned" file:

Dale Murphy started his career as a catcher for the Braves rather than the OF.

Twitter providing the crazy cool stats.

The Cubs have the most hits of any franchise all-time at 192,394.

Tony Gwynn owns 4.7% of all base hits in Padres history.

I never would've guessed Mark Grace would lead a decade in hits. That just blows me away.

Or Robby Cano. Wouldn't have guessed that either.

Kinsler being the 2010s run leader is kinda surprising until you remember that he played with those mashers in Texas, Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez (twice), Mike Trout and Albert Pujols, and Boston's 2018 lineup.

That one didn’t surprise me. He played in 150 or more games for 11 straight years and was a 300 hitter over that time.

Jeff Sullivan leaving fangraphs to work in the Rays organization. That site is bleeding out right now, it's like baseball's Grantland, too good to last.

I wish Jeff well, I've only recently been listening to the Effectively Wild podcast that he does with Ben Lindbergh and I find him informative. Now I have to hate his guts because the Rays have a voodoo like hold on the Blue Jays.

Just saw on Twitter that Boston Globe writer and regular MLB-N contributor Nick Cafardo has passed away suddenly at the age of 62.

I thought he was their most entertaining writer. Too bad.

Ahh Grantland. That was great stuff. I loved reading the 30 every week.

MLB is going to implement a 20 sec pitch clock during spring training, with a staggered release that goes from no enforcement to ball/strike penalties if they get anywhere with the MLBPA negotiations.

I'm looking forward to seeing how that pans out. Locally, Blue Jays players and coaches are receptive to the idea of it.
