    Re: MLB Off-Topic

Heard an interesting proposal for the Astros punishment today that I hadn't seen elsewhere. It's certainly unprecedented and extremely un-orthodox but wanted to mention here.

I find it more appealing (to me) than the weak one that was imposed as well as some of the extremes I've heard.

    It's simple.

The Astros Start with -10 wins in the win column.

Crazy I know, but the more I heard it, the more I thought it was interesting.

Definitely interesting but wouldn't that affect the standings in a weird way?

I'm trying to think of how because it seems weird. It would definitely make for an uneven amount of win/losses throughout the league but I don't think that would actually have a negative affect on playoffs/wildcard.

It also wouldn't negatively impact any other teams in a any way (that I can think of) since if they beat someone, that other team would still get a loss.

Or they could just have the Astros sit out the 2020 season and have the AL West be 4 teams again for a year. Haha.

The only real thing I don't like about it is that this is affecting players on that team that had little or nothing to do with it. We can't assure ourselves that every player on that team was receiving the same information, and if they were we can't enter their mind and know if they were doing anything with it either.

Anyone remember that episode of Growing Pains where Mike wrote the answers to a history test on his shoes but aced it without referencing them at all? Then again, he was forced to take the test again in just his trousers and the lesson was "intending to cheat was just as bad as cheating itself," but that's besides the point haha. You and I all know that even if we were on that team and didn't want to cheat, we wouldn't blow the whistle on our own club. It's just an honorary system even if you become a bad guy for it.

The real bother would be on the players that are on the team now but weren't at the time (like call-ups and acquisitions). On the other hand, if they made that ruling early enough it would definitely scare players away from wanting to sign with them. That in itself is a nice little punishment for them.

I also wonder how many teams were really doing this.

                Make them bat a pitcher.

                Two pitchers for interleague.
                NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
                NFL - Buffalo Bills
                MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Agreed, and that was one struggle I had with it.

He's not much of baseball fan but he's a sports talk host and writer in Pittsburgh so his intent has nothing to do with the A's.

(It may or may not have been posted here by an A's fan though)

Here's the story (Ignore the inevitable tie in to lack of punishment for the Patriots from a Steelers fan):

To add to this can they do something similar to soccer's transfer ban like a free agency signing ban?

                      -10 win thing is silly.

                      Free agency idea is interesting.

But lets not complicate things, lifetime ban remains the best course of action. Too bad MLB didn't went after players to avoid a fight with the MLBPA.

It's interesting in that any punishment levied affects performance...which affects attendance...which affects revenue...which affects parent MLB's profits.

I feel like MLB has a don't cut your nose off to spite the face mindset, somewhat.

It also is interesting because it may not be an attractive landing spot for free agents.

If I understood what I heard on ESPN radio last night, the Astros were given light punishments and told not to discuss any of it because MLB believes/knows there are several other teams (the 8 the Astros mentioned? More?) that were doing similar things and MLB just wants to sweep it under the rug instead of having to admit that electronic sign stealing has been rampant.

I don't buy it at all. They also told all teams not to comment on it. MLB doesn't know anything that isn't spoon fed to them otherwise they would have known Houston was doing this far before it came out in the public and those 8 teams you mentioned were the teams fingered by Houston themselves. I have zero confidence in believing anything coming from Houston after getting caught, they're in damage control to make what they did look less severe then it was.

The players themselves weren't disciplined because they were given immunity for cooperating with the investigation and that's been reported by multiple sources.

I continue to get more and more heated about this Asstros bull****. **** that entire franchise. Strip the title. Strip Altuve of his bull**** MVP. I'll vomit if I have to hear how courageous Altuve is from the ESPN booth. That little **** and the rest of that model organization should be suspended half the season. Force them to tank 2020 and strip them of the draft picks and force them to suck so bad it kills them in attendance.

                                Embarrass this franchise MLB.

And **** Alex Cora and Hinch.

Edit: MLB wanted to make a mockery of all the steroid users and complete their grueling bs witch hunt and make Bonds the poster boy of it all. But won't supply the same energy to dealing with the Asstros, which just completed the worst offense since the Black Sox scandal.

Judge is a really good human being and he was cheated by that ****ing midget. I'm done rambling. But I might take a break from baseball this year. This sport has serious issues.
