Actually Canada has a wealth of talent but most don't want to play in the WBC.

I'm all for Gagne trying to make a comeback. I like to see the old guys showing they have a little something left in the tank and show that it's not ALL a young man's game.

The authoritarian tendencies/leanings some people in this country live by are absolutely terrifying. I almost wish social media never became a thing so that backwards and misguided people could simply keep their hate, self-loathing, and outward-projected inadequacies to their tiny little orbits of existence. I'll stop there before venturing off the deep end and getting myself banned in an ironic way.

Either way, something needs to change in Canadian sports. Their development of athletes outside of ice/snow related sports can be improved on big time. Countries I can't even point out on a map are better than them in soccer(men's wise), baseball wise with MLB here for 40-50 years now, you'd think their baseball players would be better.

So I was reading a short article about Dave Stieb (he was talking about how he should've been on the HOF ballot for more than a single year. He only got 7 votes. He realizes he wasn't a HOFer but doesn't like how a lot of guys like himself who did some great work in their careers get blown out in their first year) and I learned something I didn't know. We all talk about Jack Morris being the best pitcher of the '80s but Stieb had the best WAR of any pitcher in that decade. (48.6) That's pretty impressive right there.

Here's a snippet of Stieb talking about his WAR:

“Pat Hentgen told me years ago, he goes, ‘Man, you know how they're using that WAR a lot, that stat?’ I go, 'Yeah.' He goes, 'They use that like crazy now to gauge how good someone really is.’ He goes, ‘If they looked at that when you were playing, you would have won four Cy Young Awards in a row.’”
          Anywho here's the full article:

Four long-time MLB umpires have retired: Bob Davidson, Bob Hirschbeck, Jim Joyce, and Tim Welke.

Also Facebook and and MLB are in discussions about streaming 1 game per week.

Anybody catch Manfred's news conference this afternoon?

I watched a bit of it...looks like we'll probably see a lot of the rule changes he wants implemented by 2018.

Good riddance to both of the Bobs. I like Joyce and Welke though.

Interesting about the FB streaming. I wonder if that will be a stream of a local broadcast or something in cooperation with MLB-N?

Maybe Armando Galarraga should try to make a comeback and get his perfect game with no one around to "kick the call" at 1B...

The automatic signal from the dugout for an IBB sounds to have passed.

He was pretty heavy handed. Basically if the union doesn't agree with rule changes, after two years, oh well they're happening.

MLB on XM was saying the same thing. Manfred got pissy and stated that due to the PA's resistance, no rules were altered.

I do hope that the strikezone is changed for next season, going back to the '96 standard.

Regarding FB broadcasting games - not to sound like a broken record, but if they can add all these streaming games to Yahoo, FB, etc, why can't we get some kind of streaming service for the MLB Network??

MLB Network is a partner with MLB.com and they already have a streaming service, you won't see them compete against each other.
