Yep...I think that's pretty crazy how a suspended game like that impacts "official" stats. Bonds was called up end of May and had over 200 PA's (plus 10 HR's) by the time he took part in this game, but this single that he hit in this game is in the record books as his "first" hit and RBI.

I like the trivia question better if it's:
Which player picked up his first career hit after already having 50 (or whatever the count was) MLB hits to his credit?
I just know people would look at me like I'm stupid. And that's how I want my trivia."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: MLB Off-Topic
It should be like 8 seconds, what kind of tomfoolery is this? After it happens, immediately go to the umpire to challenge or let it die. This waiting for the guys upstairs to confirm if the runner at 2nd base picked his heel up off the bag on a steal attempt goes against everything I wanted in replay.Comment

Sad news today as Jerry Remy announced over Twitter that he has a cancer relapse. I hate the Sawx but I have a great respect for Remy.

But yes, it should be immediate. They should not be allowed to go to a phone either.
I miss the days of players complaining to the umpires about a bad call. Now if someone is caught stealing 2B, the player points to the dugout immediately instead. Seems baby-ish.
... which sounds kind of weird, because complaining would technically be the babier action.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
What's wrong with just getting the call right? Have a fifth umpire in the booth who can overturn an obviously bad call immediately and be done with it. No stepping around, no clocks or challenge flags or other BS, just get the call right.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Re: MLB Off-Topic
They should make it like NFL. You have until the next play to challenge. So you might see a quick play(or in this case a quick pitch, pickoff, or quick base stealing attempt(in this instance, the runner might lean abit more with intention of going back to his base, but leans enough to get the pitcher to step off the rubber or throw to the base)) happen to prevent the other team from challenging.Comment

The current verbiage of the rule says the manager needs to inform the umpire as soon as possible but that is obviously too ambiguous.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
MLB doesn't have a play clock like the NFL does. The problem right now is that the batter or pitcher can easily stall until the manager gives the okay to go ahead or asks for a challenge.

Pitch clocks would help too. Not anything drastic that hurts pitchers, but at least eliminate the unnecessary 30+ second waits between some pitches(I think official rule was 12 second or something, MLB average is 15-20? So 30 sec clock eliminates the unnecessary stuff.Last edited by Majingir; 02-14-2017, 10:52 AM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Hey man I'm all for what you propose. I just want things to move along faster when going to replay. The entire process takes too damn long. The again, I'm fine with human error in sports so maybe I'm not the best guy to be speaking on replay.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Things need to be done quick...manager gets 20-30 seconds to think about it, take 3-4 looks at replay, umps make a decision and we move on.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Anyone watch Baseball Tonight this evening? (2/15) Smoltz and Leiter had a GREAT conversation about young pitchers and how they're basically set up for long term injury as young as youth league baseball. I tell ya, I can listen to these two talk about pitching, usage and the art of being a good pitcher for hours on end.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
