I like it too. The guys who get these scoops are bigger then the platform. Since he's done this and people have noticed and kept up with him, he should know now he doesn't need an employer to convey his stories. People come to FS, ESPN, etc for them, not for the FS, ESPN logo.

He should build a website and start his own sports media. That would be effective in making revenue but also costly. Or keep using a platform like Facebook or Medium or whatever else fits what he's trying to do it the money isn't a big deal.

What is the payment model for someone posting stuff on Facebook?

All I see is a guy who used to get paid to bring views to a huge company now doing it for free for an even huger company.

Can probably use those views to either convince another company he's worth his asking price or may realize there's earning potential in starting his own venture.

So he's going to use all the work he's now doing for free to either get back into the same position he was at or maybe do something that he could've done with a job? I just don't really see how there's any real benefit here.

              That's his only role now.
He's not publishing any written articles for them.
              Actually, nobody is.
              It's all video content.

Yeah he's been transitioned to a video guy. There's no place for him to write for them anymore.

I didn't even think of that.

Maybe Rosenthal is asking for a steep salary.

Edit: On second thought, maybe not. Jayson Stark is still out there too waiting.

So, we give Facebook our clicks instead? I don't really see the difference.

And maybe companies will even pay him to advertise. So on his FB and Twitter feeds you'll occasionally see him mentioning some product or something else. Companies often do that with blue checkmark people who have big followings.

Hes a writer so he wants to write. Right now no one is paying him to do it. Doesn't mean he doesn't want to continue doing what he loves.

For all we know he could be working on a book while he makes post to keep interest in his work high.

Sure, but the idea that there's something to be celebrated in this is lost on me. Fox and ESPN don't care. They aren't losing anything. It's just Rosenthal up a creek without a paddle.

Rosenthal did an interview shortly after this situation became widely known. He enjoys working with FOX and wants to keep working there BUT he also loves writing and wants to continue to make a living doing that. He has no ill will towards FOX taking away his platform to write there but he feels that the written word is just as important as video and thus is doing this until he can get a writing gig somewhere else.

I would imagine if things drag out into the offseason he may look into starting his own venture in the vein of Grantland or whatever. I'd certainly use a site that employs the writing of Rosenthal, Stark and other fairly good writers. We're focusing on Rosenthal but remember ANYONE who wrote for Fox's site is out of a job.

Rosenthal is pretty realistic about everything and he even said not to cry tears over him as he's doing okay financially.

I'm really surprised to see people holding the possibility of him creating his own outlet as plausible. If all of these big sites are killing their sports writing, that leads you to believe there's an opportunity to make a lot of money in sportswriting? Bill Simmons was a bigger name, with ESPN backing, and Grantland still got shut down.
