How about fingernail length? Gonna police that, too?

I also have never experienced an employer that promulgates/enforces a policy against facial hair. It is, in fact, rare. Each workplace is entitled to have it's own policy, but it is silly and stupid.

Working in a restaurant, I get it. I haven't had my beard in over a year and it sucks. But baseball players? Having facial hair doesn't make anyone look "less professional".

The only time I can see it being an effective rule is in sales (because appearances can be a big deal in terms of negotiations) and food service (just to reduce the instances of hair getting in food).
I don't necessarily disagree with any of this, but on the other hand if the Yankees want to have the policy, I can't say they don't have the right. Every player knows the policy and can decide to not sign with them if it's that important.

I don't think the Yankees view it as a "makes the player look more professional/play better" kind of thing, but rather a "we all try to look the same/not draw attention/stand out" because "no player is bigger than the team" thing. That is also why the Yankees don't do names on jerseys...and again, IMO, it's their prerogative to do so (just as it's the prerogative of people to call it ridiculous).

But what if a player who doesn't agree with it, wouldn't sign there because of it is traded there and has to abide by it?

I mean we're talking about guys who are making a ton of money to play baseball so they can probably stomach it but I still don't agree with it.

My college baseball coach made us do it and I hated it. Haven't been clean shaven since I graduated.

I've never heard it explained like that. Still think it's dumb, but at least that makes some sense to me.

Same thing that happens if I grew up a Yankees fan my whole life and get traded to the Red Sox. They're employees. Show up to work, follow the rules or retire. What if I hate tucking in my jersey? No one cares.

The post I quoted mentioned if you didn't like it you didn't have to sign there.

I posted my counter to that, not sure your post really is any different than the post I quoted nor does it really say anything about the minute point I was making.

I guess the point was that it just is irrelevant if you're traded. That's something you agreed to the possibility of by joining the PA and agreeing to the CBA with everyone else.

It'll be funnier when he shaves. Also, I know very few people who "support" the policy, I guess. Just most people don't care. For me it's more the issue of people putting baseball players on a pedestal. "Well I understand these people having a dress code, but baseball players?!" I don't get it. Other than the military, very few make any sense. It's for almost purely aesthetic reasons. But baseball players having a dress code is unbelievable? They already wear uniforms! It's just crazy to me how much more people care than the players.

And it'll be funniest when he initially shaves, then forces his way out of NY over the policy and the Dodgers get him for 65 cents on the dollar.

I don't think anyone on either side is losing any sleep over this. Naturally it comes down to the bearded on one side and Yankee fans/clean shaven on the other. To me, the only time a facial hair policy makes sense is when you're playing a pickup game of beards vs shaves down at the local Y.

Bryce will shave if Boras tells him it makes more sense to take the ridiculous dollars the Yankees are offering in this hypothetical scenario in which the Yankees have an offer substantial enough to make Harper take it.
