I was sitting there with my mouth open lol. I had never realized how embedded into the game the simple act of wasting time was for some reason. If I was showing a friend that, and they asked me to change the channel, I wouldn't even blame them.
But that was one game. How often do things like that happen?

The answer is, it always happens but in a slightly different way. And that's exactly the issue with changing things. It can never be one thing.

The non pitch intentional walk was almost likely in response to a single game where one player was intentionally walked more than once and a relief pitcher threw four time wasting pitches to help his teammate warm up late in the game.

You can look at that sentence and say, that always happens. But does it? I can tell you bits of that always happen. How often does one player get intentionally walked more than once in a single game? Heck, how often do players get intentionally walked in a single game of Baseball?

And how much time was really lost in that situation? 5 minutes at most? So we cut out 5 minutes from one game of thousands? And that solves the issue of long games?

Not picking on you. Quoting you because you mentioned a perfect situation that's used by the non fan.

      Sometimes the game is long.

      Sometimes the game is short.

I may be misunderstanding you but pitch clocks have been in the minors since 2015 and they haven't done much for the overall time of game.

So, if it has no effect then people shouldn't have a problem with it in the majors. No effect = no negative effect. There should be zero fear of somehow tainting the game in any way. It will just be a handy reminder to everyone that there is actually a time limit.

Fair argument to make but the people who you are trying to convince are people who already don't care about how long games can take at times.

It's really an impossible divide to find much of a compromise on, people who are content with the game as is won't ever be able to convince those that want pace of play rules in place and vice versa.

I don't have anything against those who want shorter games and want things removed (or changed/limited to a degree) but it's just not for me.

I mostly agree with this. Like blzer said, there's also just not much you can do to regulate pickoffs without swinging competitive advantage.

This is why I don't advertise baseball to people as fun. It's fun in the same way chess is, in that it really isn't but it can be lol. It's hard enough to get a newcomer to sit through a quickly paced game, now you're stalling on purpose? Can't do it. This is the era of "too much good TV to waste time watching bad shows". We can get Game of Thrones with no commercials, nobody's waiting for a reliever to warm up.

The most popular sport in America probably has even less game action than baseball. I think some people like criticizing baseball for the sake of criticizing it.

If the only players to move in football were the QB and the MLB you'd probably hear a lot of the same complaints.

The funny thing is that 99% of people who watch football only follow the ball...I doubt anyone watches the O-line/DLine battle, checks out the secondary, etc, except those of us who are hard core.

For sure, football just lends itself easier to stuff like that. The only 1 v 1 in baseball is pitcher vs hitter. We can't really have OBJ-Norman shenanigans and stuff like that.

The NFL will face the same problem in the future when their talent is diluted and their rules force the game to really be just a QB and receiver playing catch.

So there's a rumor going around that teams might adopt the DBacks gray uniform look for road games in the future. Could come as early as 2019.

I like that the Diamondbacks do it because they're the only team that does it. I don't love it at all, but I'm for a team doing something distinguishing, like when the A's had white cleats or how the Marlins have like seventeen colors. I mean imagine if every team that built a new stadium said: "The green monster is cool, let's make one!"
