He had 102 ABs in 2015 and 113 ABs in 2016 with Oakland.

      NL MVP: Paul Goldschmidt
      NL Cy Young: Jacob deGrom
      NL ROY: Juan Soto
      NL Reliever: Josh Hader
      NL Manager: Gabe Kapler

      AL MVP: Mookie Betts
      AL Cy Young: Chris Sale
      AL ROY: Gleyber Torres
      AL Reliever: Edwin Diaz
      AL Manager: Alex Cora

Pretty easy for me for the first half of the season. Kimbrel comes close to Diaz, but the guy almost has 40 saves at the break.

NL MVP: Nolan Arenado (deGrom might be best NL player this year, but he might not even win Cy Young, I could see him winning both or none)
NL Cy Young: Jacob deGrom (he has been best pitcher, but you know voters look at W/L and team performances)
        NL ROY: Juan Soto
        NL Reliever: Sean Doolittle
NL Manager: NL East winning manager

        AL MVP: Mookie Betts
        AL Cy Young: Chris Sale
AL ROY: Gleyber Torres (Lou Trivino also in contention)
AL Reliever: Aroldis Chapman (Blake Treinen has a case too)
AL Manager: AL East winning manager

First off, I think any type of "this guy HAS to win the MVP" talk in July is premature...lot of baseball to be played. That said, I was surprised listening to MLB Network radio this afternoon and they basically said Mike Trout is the "probable" AL MVP. Trout is the best player in baseball...but Betts is having a tremendous year on a historic team. If the voting was held today, he'd win.

Mike Trout, Mookie Betts, and Jose Ramirez gives us a strong trio of candidates. I was thinking Verlander might be in the mix also until his recent mini slump. Can't slump at all if you're keeping pace with these players. If any of the lead guys falter or get hurt, there's a chase group of about a dozen All-Stars in the "peloton" just waiting to finish strong and catch them.

So Betts wins because his team is better?
I mean I am just asking is that what you are basing it on?
                    Perfectly fine if you are.
But their stats are very similar, in fact Trouts are slightly better.
Put Trout on the Red Sox and I guess he would win the MVP then?

I'm not saying yes or no, but that's how a lot of things are and have been.

Films that are up for a lot of Oscar nominations also seem to include their actors and costume design, etc... or maybe it's that they are the reasons why the picture itself is so good?

Betts is a spark-plug for his team. He's probably more valuable in the #2 or #3 star when it comes to run contributions, but emotionally he creates a lot of fire and momentum for the rest of that lineup, either when the game starts off or when it flips over and he turns it afterward to Benintendi and Martinez to clean it up. I'm not here to say the Angels are offensively as good as the Red Sox are, but I think Betts provides more to the team than just his plate appearances compared to that of Trout.

And I don't agree that Trout's numbers are better this year. His intentional walks are probably the only thing that inflates him above Betts in OBP. Mookie was also injured for a while which puts his home run numbers under only slightly (Trout has played nearly 25% more games than Betts this season). His RISP with two outs is also significantly better, albeit a small sample size for both players. Also more stolen bases, though they're about equal there (but again, Betts was injured for a while).

I did not check any defensive numbers, though I'm sure you can give Trout those.

Don't like. Managing when pitchers are batting is a whole 'nother thing. Sorry, but managing with the DH is just significantly easier. I know that's gonna be a controversial statement, but I'm not gonna be taking the popular road at this stage.

I want AL or DH fans or whatever to realize that it's not like I want the AL to get rid of the DH either. I want it like it is. It's really the only thing now that separates the two leagues, and I like watching pitchers bat and the strategy around the lineup and managing.

I like the managerial curve having no DH brings to the NL game. Also like how the DH extends a guy like David Ortiz career. However, it’s silly to have two sets of rules for each league. Either have the NL adopt the DH or scrap it all together.

Personally I like having the pitcher bat as it allows for a bit more strategic moves by the manager but I realize that the DH is an inevitability in the NL sooner than later.

Funny thing is, with the way older players are being squeezed out with contracts that they don't want to sign then the need for the DH actually kind of diminishes as you'll start to see young guys in that slot rather than older ballplayers.
