    Re: MLB Off-Topic

Yeah. Plus, he'll make so much more in football (I'm counting endorsements), and may want the commodity of actually being known.

I mean let's be real: anyone outside of baseball, the greater Los Angeles area, and Mike Trout's own family does not know who Mike Trout is. The greatest player of our generation is just some guy in everyone else's eyes. My mom loosely follows baseball, and when they showed him in a Philly game at the end of the year, she asked if he was "The Bachelor or something?"

If Murray even has a shred of passion in football and a slight disinterest in baseball, there is no reason he wouldn't take that opportunity. QB is possibly now the safest position to play in all of the major sports, or at least is now the safest that it has ever been. It would be one thing if we were talking the Yankees, but this is Oakland here.

If I understand this right, this makes it sounds like there's a loophole or exemption within the rule instead of MLB changing or removing the rule:

In Murray's case, because he signed a minor league deal, and because his performance at Oklahoma changed the circumstances of his baseball career, Oakland would be within the rules to give Murray a long-term extension if that's what it takes to keep him in baseball,
The A's have been given the green light by MLB to offer a major league deal and more money to keep first-round draft pick Kyler Murray in baseball and out of the NFL draft.

        Okay, thanks??

Don't really care much about the technicalities of it. Just posted something I read in a tweet.

If I were him, I would go to the NFL and not think twice.

Yeah, if I were Murray i'd go to the NFL especially with his skill set and the way the game is going today he'd make better money and be more well known.

I don't know where the condescension is coming from. I was just clarifying your information with what I read in an article.

I'll leave it wrong next time.

Kyler Murray could preserve his body and also line himself up to make hundreds of millions of dollars if he's good enough with the uncapped salaries but hey bro whatever.

                Go play football dude.

Other than kickers, QB is the safest position to play. I think it's a good enough risk for him.

Had a chance meeting with Evan Gattis yesterday. Spent almost a half hour talking to him. Very down to earth guy and someone you'd easily BS at a sports bar over a beer with.

Got some interesting insight from him.

Don't want you to tell tales out of school but did you guys touch on the whole Roberto Osuna thing? A LOT was made of that trade.

Oh and I bet he had some great stories about Altuve, Correa, Springer.

Anywho, that's a pretty cool encounter you had there and yeah, he does seem like a pretty "normal" guy from what i've seen on TV.

That's a big if. It'll be probably 4-5 years before he makes the kind of money he can make next year with a rookie NFL contract.

We didn't talk about Osuna, no.

He talked about being proud to be part of the first Texas team to win the WS and moreover being the first native Texan to win one with a Texas team.

I asked him if there was any chance he'd be able to re-sign with the Astros and he said no. He said they'll replace him younger and cheaper and talked about how good Tyler White is.

I asked if he had any idea where he might land and he said he's thinking of taking a sabbatical as he's not in shape. He said he has some other things he's been working on that he's very passionate about.

He also said he'd love to work for the Astros organization again after baseball even adding "if I've played my last game".

He stressed how the Astros need to re-sign Marwin Gonzalez. He said Marwin is his best friend and literally showed me that he had goose bumps when he was talking about how strongly hopes Marwin finally gets a good payday and gets it with Houston.

He even congratulated me, as a lifelong Astros fan, for the team finally winning the WS. Lol.

That is pretty awesome. He seems like a super cool guy. I'm glad that he's happy with what he's accomplished as he seems to be a realist what with the way the game is going today.

I wish him the best of luck.

Y'see I disagree here with some of y'alls thinking.

I think that Murray should go for MLB if he's offered $15MM. The injury risk, expectations, etc...not nearly as high as the NFL would be in my mind. If I had the skill set he does, baseball is SUBSTANTIALLY safer and has a higher potential of total $$ earned.

That said...it truly is according to his desire and where he wants to play. If he's playing baseball just to get $$, that will show - vice versa if he's playing football just for the $$.
