I think it’s just a money grab, the streaming platforms are offering money so might as well take it. I can’t see anyone that isn’t currently a baseball fan but already has Apple TV looking for something to watch and deciding to watch a random baseball game and becoming a fan

Not sure why, but like once a year I take a look at José Fernández's Fangraphs page. Did it again tonight.

More like, they (and many companies) overestimate people's willingness to pay money for yet another thing they have to subscribe for.

Low-key interesting player this season: Kevin Newman

He had a 7.4% K percentage last year, which was the lowest of all qualified players. But he also had the lowest OPB of qualified players (.574). Which is itself a fascinating thing. He must've just been slapping at everything with the intent of not striking out. Defense was pretty good though. He went from decent contact hitter with not so great defense early in his career to no offense at all last year with good defense.

This offseason he modified his swing and is hitting great in spring training in limited action. If he can get hits this season, combined with the improved defense, could be a nice player.

                This will go over well..

MLB allowing ads on jerseys and helmets starting next season.

Ads can't be from gambling companies (I'm guessing/hoping crypto included here), alcohol or media companies either.

Are they sponsoring teams only, or are individual players able to be sponsored?

I'm guessing its teams only. A patch on either shoulder and a helmet ad.

I likely won't notice the shoulder one, and I hope the helmet one is on the back. Overall I'd prefer not to see it and I wouldn't want it on a jersey that I purchase from the MLB shop, though they probably won't stand out too much.

Honestly, the Nike one right on the chest is the most offensive one to me. I loathe its placement or how it reminds me too much of like a college baseball uniform. I miss the Majestic uniforms myself.

Not a fan of it. But I hardly notice it on NBA uniforms. As long as it's placed in a clean way I'm ok with it. Just don't ever make it look like soccer. That **** look like well... ****.

Totally agree about the Nike symbol, I wish they’d just put it on the sleeve like on NFL uniforms

More proof that Spring Training stats don't mean anything: Kevin Newman slashed an unreal .606/.641/.788 last spring leading into his dismal season.

I agree though that he could be an interesting guy this year. Likely just sort of a stop gap for Oneil Cruz, but his bat profiles well at 2B so he could easily slide over once Cruz arrives. I guess the bigger question is if Cruz can handle SS defensively

Yeah it's even better than I remembered. Really wonder where he would stack up compared to some of the best arms in the game now. He would be entering his age-30 season this year. Pitchers are hard to project, especially with a higher risk of injury, but he really just dominated right from the get go. Have to think he'd still be right up there with guys like Scherzer & DeGrom.

Also wonder what would have happened to that Marlins core....

Fernandez was better than Scherzer when looking at early career numbers, but I definitely see him being like degrom.

Although knowing the Marlins, he winds up signing some major deal with Miami, and ends up on the Yankees or Red Sox or something.

Astros just posted this on Twitter, I assume it's about their City Connect uniforms. It seems like they'll be revealing them next Sunday and wearing them on the 20th.
