Re: MLB Off-Topic
Analytics proved that base stealing and small ball isn't as conducive to scoring runs as swinging for the fences is, so if we want to go back to the old ways (which I do), it will require rule changes, messing with the field, messing with the ball, etc. It's like in antitrust law, when a company becomes so successful they're a monopoly, you say "well done, you won the game," then break them up. Same deal here with baseball.
It puts extreme pressure on the pitcher. He might not throw a breaking ball in fear of a really good base stealer and give a hitter a meatball fastball or he might be scared of a wild pitch and not trust certain pitches. It changes the whole game when you have a guy that can swipe bags.
Not to mention some pitchers are just terrible at holding runners. And there's not too many good catchers. Can't believe it hasn't been taking advantage of. Managers are probably scared of a guy straining something or whatever [emoji849]
The move to go away from stealing. Is stupid. Analytics are wrong in this case.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I'll quote the brilliant Brian Cashman. Answering this question. Why don't you steal more? "We don't like to give away outs. It's an assessment of risk."
Lol yet the Yankees can't score with Risp to save their lives. I'm always amazed by how stupid these millionaire Gms are.
Sure when the team is killing it offensively you don't have to steal bases. But when the offense sputters. Wouldn't you want to mix things up. Because obviously station to station baseball isn't working.
These guys are like robots set on the same mode. Nobody uses common sense. But the analytics say..... ****ing morons. Analytics haven't gotten this team to a WS. Hurray for useless numbers.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I would love to see more steals, but at the same time it is a risk that is not worth taking in today's game. The reward of gaining one base is not worth the risk of giving away an out on the bases, with the exception of the few very good base stealers left in the game. Unfortunately many of those speed guys don't have enough other tools to provide value outside of their baserunning, and often times get left off the roster. I think some of the changes to the bases could help this a bit

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Wait, you want them to risk outs to get a runner in scoring position, but complain that they can't score with runners in scoring position?

Obviously you have to have guys make contact for a team full of speedster to work. They go hand in hand.

Trevor Bauer is not one to be trifled with…
It’s ridiculous though that he is still on administrative leave.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I don't think defenses are nearly as prepared as in times' past so I love it when offenses are aggressive and push the defense to make a play.
That's what makes Acuna and Albies so fun to watch sometimes.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
