Re: Official 2004 Pittsburgh Pirates GameLog/Chat

If Wells could get through 5 innings with less than 100 pitches it wouldn't be so bad. He's become almost as aggrivating as Benson.

Plus, we're making this Carpenter guy look like the second-coming of Cy Young.

I think Wells had some sort of problem/injury. I'm listening and they said he came out for the 6th but while doing his warm-ups he was taken out. No report yet on what it could be. So that could be some problem tonight, but in general Wells is WAY to tentative. Stop nibbling and throw the ball!!

Making Carpenter look like Cy Young is better than having our pitchers look like Jimmy Haynes (Only 5 runs tonight )

EDIT: MLB Gameday says Wells has hand/wrist injury so take it as whatever you want. Announcers just said Kip had irritation of his middle finger.

Well maybe Jose Batista isn't coming back. He's been claimed off of waivers by the Devil Rays. With the awful way they've been playing he might just stick there all year. I want him to come back we need 3b prospects.

Hey guys....I'm not a Pirate fan but I was wondering about why hasn't McClendon played Jason Bay more. I understand that Ward and Simon have been hot but isn't this guy the must-have from the Brian Giles trade? I'm sure Pirate fans want to see more of him especially after having a nice start last year when he broke in. Having him sit on the bench dosn't make sense. Has he fallen from grace from Pirate management?

One is that Ward has been hitting well, and Mac still thinks that Simon will be a big part of the offense. So that causes a overspill into the outfield. There is Tike Redman, Craig Wilson, Daryle Ward(cause Simon is at 1st), Rob Mackowiak, and Jason Bay all fighting for time at center. So that is one reason.

The second is that Bay still is not quite a 100% after his off season shoulder surgery. When he gets a ball his throws to the infield are mostly all rainbows and teams are running all over him. Plus with Ward and Wilson that means Bay has to play centerfield, which he really isn't suited to do. I have a feeling though that within the next couple weeks Bay will get a larger percent of the time in the field. Mac has to eventually figure out that Simon is no good at first, and will move Ward back there and Bay should get a his shot.
