Hey guys....I'm not a Pirate fan but I was wondering about why hasn't McClendon played Jason Bay more. I understand that Ward and Simon have been hot but isn't this guy the must-have from the Brian Giles trade? I'm sure Pirate fans want to see more of him especially after having a nice start last year when he broke in. Having him sit on the bench dosn't make sense. Has he fallen from grace from Pirate management?

One is that Ward has been hitting well, and Mac still thinks that Simon will be a big part of the offense. So that causes a overspill into the outfield. There is Tike Redman, Craig Wilson, Daryle Ward(cause Simon is at 1st), Rob Mackowiak, and Jason Bay all fighting for time at center. So that is one reason.

The second is that Bay still is not quite a 100% after his off season shoulder surgery. When he gets a ball his throws to the infield are mostly all rainbows and teams are running all over him. Plus with Ward and Wilson that means Bay has to play centerfield, which he really isn't suited to do. I have a feeling though that within the next couple weeks Bay will get a larger percent of the time in the field. Mac has to eventually figure out that Simon is no good at first, and will move Ward back there and Bay should get a his shot.

Fogg actually pitched pretty darn good today. He had too considering Prior pitched very well for 6 IP. Right now it's 2-1 Buc's and Mesa is trying to close it out in the 9th.

Well it gets intresting but Mesa does close it out for the 2-1 Bucs win.

Today was a great game of baseball for both clubs. Good game all around. Prior looked good in his 6 innnings of work, and Fogg hung with him inning for inning and pitched 7 good innings. The defense behind Fogg was shakey but good. Tike saved a couple runs with a diving catch out in center. A great game for the Bucs and great game.

Chris Stynes, Jack Wilson, and Craig Wilson all get gold stars for the game. All contribute to the 2 runs in the 9th, espically Stynes with the go ahead single.

            GREAT GAME BUCS

Heh..... I never thought I'd hear the day that Chris Stynes would get a "Gold Star" for a good game (or should I say good at bat)!!!

I have a feeling that his time is running out. I think they might pull a Kevin Young with him and let him go near the end of the summer.

I forgot about these 2 incidents. Do you guys think the Boehringer and JJ Davis injuries were BS? I mean Davis has even said he's been as healthy as he's ever been, but the Pirates still DL'ed him. I assume this is to get some PT at the minors. I'm not sure how long he can be down there though (2 weeks maybe?).

I also wonder about Boehringer. Something seems fishy. Part of me thinks they DL'ed him because he's stunk so often and it gets Mike Gonzalez back up to the majors, but the other part of me knows that's against the rules and the Pirates could get into some trouble by doing that.

I agree I think Chris Stynes is on his way out. Either being cut with the return of J.J Davis or Freddy Sanchez. But here's something posted on another board that caught my eye.

                        From the San Fransisco Chronicle:
                        </font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font><hr />
"After that, there are a number of so-so possibilities who are probably available. Pittsburgh's Chris Stynes could be a nice addition: He led the NL in fielding percentage at third last year, and Beane mentioned that defense is a priority when trying to replace Chavez."

                        <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
If we could trade Stynes and get anything for him I am all for it.

Injuries. J.J Davis's "injury" is just a chance to get him playing time. He starts a rehab today I believe and gets 20 days in the minors. After that it's make or break time for him with the Bucs. Either he does well and comes back to the big leagues or is put on waivers. This whole thing, I think, is just so the Pirates could get one last chance to evaluate him and see what they are going to do with him.

Boehringer I think acually has some sort of injury. Mac said he noticed it when Boehringer first went out but he tried to pitch through it. Mac said his fastballs were way down on the gun and something was obviously wrong. So he goes to the DL it probably helps the team more than it hurts. Plus Mike Gonzalez is a good arm to have in the pen.

As much as I hate him, I think this injury is legit. I read that in his last appearance, his fastball only hit about 85. Kendall went to ask him if he was okay, and he said "no" Apparently he wasn't telling anyone that his shoulder was bothering him, and was trying to play through it in the old-school way. Kendall was the one who made him shut it down.
