I don't often agree with the guys on MLB Network....but some good points being made.

1-Lester could very well go back to Boston as a FA next year...which would be devastating if the A's don't make it...

2-The A's could try and move Hammel back to the N.L. for a piece(not sure of his value right now)

Hammel should be back in NL. His stuff shows better there. If I'm a Red Sox fan, I'm very happy, if I'm a A's fan, I'm very nervous.

Do we need cost control though? If anything, this spoke volumes about the FO claiming that they want to be good again as quickly as possible. Seems like a risk both sides took here.

I'm not that delusional to say that they will be contending next year, but this move certainly makes me think about what they are planning to do in the offseason.
This was said on another forum I post on, and I agree. This is risky for both sides, Lester could very well just return to Boston this off-season and the Red Sox decided to add a guy who will be a FA after the 15 or 17 season (so not too long) and chose not to go the prospect route. Going to be an interesting rest of the season for Oakland and a fun off-season for the Sox.

Gomes is certainly serviceable, against LH pitching. Barring another trade, id figure Billy Burns is in for an uptick in playing time. Remarkable that Beane had the stones to make this deal.

He's never been timid...that's for sure.

...and like Mabster said....I don't think he's done.

Good return with Lester leaving at season's end. He's not coming back, so let's go ahead and put that narrative to sleep.

Much needed power bat who can play a little outfield. Should fit nicely playing at Fenway

Now I wonder if we move Lackey with Lester gone. I sure hope they do.
