Craig is 30 with a big injury history. Yeah this may be who he is.

yeah i don't get the Cardinals not going after a bat but this is a perfectly good trade for them.

The Astros are taking offers for Jared Cosart and have taken Keuchel off the market. This makes no sense. Keuchel is 3 years older and should be the one getting dealt. Sure Cosart is valuable but don't trade a good young pitcher that has performed well. Keuchel is 26-27 y/o, Cosart is 23 I believe.

He'd have to be a PTBNL because he's on the DL. Don't see us wanting him with Bogaerts.

Giants and Rangers talking about Rios. This according to Jon Morosi's sources.

Thank god someone is thinking about this rationally in here. Kelly is not very good and Cardinals fans think he's this #3 pitcher for some unknown reason. They guy doesn't strike anyone out and also walks a ton of guys. The reason is ERA is so low is because of his LOB% and pure luck. We've seen what he really is this year when the luck runs out.

As for Craig, the guy was quickly becoming my favorite player a couple years ago. However, this guy is a shell of his former self. He hits nearly half of his balls in play on the ground and a high percentage of those are to the opposite field. He looks completely lost at the plate and his balance looks way off. I am beginning to think his foot is still bothering him in some way.

In Lackey we get a guy that will eat innings and provide a positive value for the stretch run. If he doesn't come back next year, fine but if he does and we get him for almost league minimum, this is a sure-fire win.

If nothing else, this sends a message to the team that Oscar is the guy and changes needed to be made if we want to win.

Kelly is young. I don't think he'll ever have the stuff to be a starter but he could've been an asset in the bullpen for the Cards.

And Craig isn't valuable? The guy is a career .290 hitter as it stands right now that was locked up for the next few years. Lackey is 35 and isn't pitching for the Cards after this season, and won't lead us to the World Series.

              Bad trade.
Because Adams is better than Craig offensively by a longshot and half of your starters are injured? Kelly is pretty bad and Craig is declining. Lackey is a reliable SP with lots of room to provide value. You guys gave up a non-asset and a declining asset for a legitimate asset. What's the issue here?

The problem with everyone upset the Cards aren't improving their offense is that there is nothing we can do that is plausible. What positions do you suggest we improve?

We're set in the infield and we have Holliday and the #2 prospect in baseball in RF. CF may be the only position and Jay/Bourjos is serviceable, plus what CF would we even get?

You summed this up perfectly. Plus, Matt Adams, he of he 135 wRC+ who is just absolutely incredible, will have 1B guaranteed. Good value move.

Lackey will not be pitching for near the league minimum next season.

Is there *any* doubt Cespedes turns into the "new" David Ortiz for Boston?

Not a doubt in my mind.

AND they got Allen Craig? He's like, the most "Boston" player of all-time. He's not anything special at the moment, but don't you worry none.

Call me unrational if you want, but this is a bad trade. I never thought Kelly was the #3 starter, but he could've been viable in the pen, like he was before. If he wasn't then you move on.

As for Craig, the guy was quickly becoming my favorite player a couple years ago. However, this guy is a shell of his former self. The guy hit over .300, 4 straight years, and is having a bad year. Possibly due to his foot. So why not sit him for the year and work on getting that worked out, if that is indeed the case, and bring him back next year. Or wait til the offseason and make a move then if you feel he can no longer help the team??

In Lackey we get a guy that will eat innings and provide a positive value for the stretch run. If he doesn't come back next year, fine but if he does and we get him for almost league minimum, this is a sure-fire win.

Lackey isn't coming back next year for the league min, I guarantee it. So you get positive value from a guy that may help us get to the playoffs, and possibly to the NLDS and that would be about it. This team isn't winning the NL this year.

This trade is bad. It doesn't help this team in any way, shape, or form. It doesn't better our chances at a pennant and doesn't help for the future. Bad trade.

Not saying we should trade for a bat. I think we should've rode out with what we had and worked towards next year.
