Only way Khalil can grab it is if he has a tremendous 2nd half while Bay hits a rut (I'm not sure if there's a book on him or not, if not, it'll probably be coming around sooner) or if Khalil starts doing more with the glove there at short.

Bay's a safe pick, but take your homer goggles off MSU, the Padres rookies always have to have a disappointing year (see Burroughs/Nady).

Yeah it's really tough to say. You brought up a good point and that's the scouting report. Once it's out on a player, that's a different stoy. Whatever rookie can adjust the best is going to come out on top.

That right there should be the difference maker in the rookie of the year. After Khalil won Rookie of the Month in April, the book was out on him and pitcher's just started tossing him weak breaking pitches low and away. He's still adjusting to it but I'd wish he'd be more agressive seeing those fastballs down the middle for a first pitch strike. Khalil's seen a lot of walks only because he's batting in front of the pitcher, I'll give him a good while until he starts realizing what's being thrown at him and what he can do with it. He looks too tentative at the plate right now.

As for Jason Bay, I'll be interested in what adjustment he'll make if they find a hole in his swing. His former teammate Xavier Nady (AAA) was the rookie of the month in May after getting off to a great start last year, pitcher's just started busting him in on the hands and found a hole in which he couldn't adjust. I'm not saying Bay will suffer what happened to Nady, but something like that will come along the way sometime this year.

I think I can bring this up, Phil Nevin said to a Padre rookie "Don't start off hot with the bat."

Right now, the biggest hole I can see in Bay's swing is down and in. He tends to swing over a lot of pitches like that, especially slower ones. He absolutely kills high fastballs though.

Lew Ford was on the active roster for 2 days over the limit last year but I'm still hoping a Twin can win rookie of the year. Joe Mauer is hitting .299 with 5 HR, 11 RBI, and 14 R in only 77 at-bats this year. Barring another injury I think he could have the numbers at the end of the year to be a favorite for AL Rookie of the Year.

                        Chicago Bulls
                        UNC Tar Heels
