Oh well, I'm trying to view this without my "homer goggles" on, but everytime I look at it, I think Bay should win. His numbers are better than all NL rookies and he's had 100 some less AB's. The only thing that could possibly go against him is that he doesn't play for a contender (which IMO is unfair to Bay).

Re: Who is your pick for rookie of the year?
It's not all offense, there's a bunch of stuff that factor in the ROTY (sometimes not even the player with the best stats gets it). Greene has gotten more exposure from the media (like ESPN), that's why he's a favorite aside from his game-changing plays. If Khalil had not been stuck in the number 8 hole for the most part of the season (behind an even worse Payton), then he'd be putting up better numbers given that he'd have more pitches to hit. If you see his splits you'll see he does better outside that number 8 hole.
Anyways, I really don't care who wins ROTY (this topic has been beaten down many times in other boards and I'm just getting tired just seeing the topic). If Bay wins it, congrats to the Pirates for getting their first ROTY (hard to believe for a franchise that's been around for a very long time). If Greene wins it, good for him.Comment

This goes to show how terrible the system is. Just compare the numbers and I can't see how Greene could winComment

For the record though I think Greene is going to win it. Pittsburgh can't seem to buy a rookie of the year. Everytime they have a contender they never seem to win it.Comment

I agree that SS is a much more valuable position than LF and if they had similar offensive numbers I'd give the nod to Greene in a minute. However, Bay has 2x the HR's and an OPS almost .200 points higher than Greene's. That's a pretty large gap IMO.Comment

Originally posted by joebooI have, but as Karlos05 stated above, Bay's numbers offensively are MUCH better than Greene's in 100 some less at bats. That has to count for something.

Just to throw this in there but I think that team standings should have very little to do with ROY honors. A lot of rookies who get solid playing time are playing for losing teams because they can bear to have these young kids out there and learn. The only way I see that team standing should have an effect is if 2 players are dead even in the stats, but 1 team is in the playoff and the other is in last.Comment

Unfortunately for Victor he isn't eligible for the award. He would be a landslide winner but he's played too much already.
