Rays have acquired Brad Miller, Logan Morrison and Danny Farquhar from the Mariners for Nathan Karns, C.J. Riefenhauser and Boog Powell.

Interesting trade on the part of both teams you can definitely see what Seattle is doing but i'm not so sure what's going on with Tampa Bay. It really seems like they're trying to cobble together a roster of "guys" and hoping it'll turn into something good.

Hopefully this is the first of many trades and interesting things to come.

That's an absolute steal for the Rays. Miller is an above average hitting, decent fielding shortstop and the Rays will actually play him there instead of throwing him into the OF because who needs defense, right?

Powell is a good prospect though, that helps.

I was listening to sports radio the other day and they were talking about Dusty and said he actually managed his pitchers much better in Cincinnati than he had before. Granted, he didn't have a great staff, but he didn't ride Volquez and Cueto like he did Prior and Wood.

I think he's smart enough to realize that pitcher's don't throw 120 pitches regularly anymore and will do well managing that staff.

I also heard that Mike Maddux is going to be the pitching coach? If so, that's a phenomenal hire.

I present you a graph (courtesy of rdnk via FanGraphs) of the number of 120+ pitch starts of a Baker managed team. My best guess is that the most a Reds team (2010) was probably 6 starts.

That's really not the problem with him. Lineup construction, Bullpen usage and favoring the vets are really more of a factor imo.

Jays extend qualifying offer to Estrada. So outside of Buehrle, looks like the rotation could look the same as it was projected to look to start 2015(before Stromans injury).

A Stroman,Estrada,Kazmir,Dickey,Hutchison rotation I would be comfortable with going into 2016 season. Hutchison on road is really the big worry in that rotation(cause at home,he was one of best in the MLB,but one of the worst on the road). So if Estrada accepts, and they can get someone like Kazmir under 15M, that leaves a good amount of money to add a big lefty reliever and 2-3 good right handed relievers in bullpen.

Don't like giving up Miller, I think he's potentially a Zobrist-type player. Apparently Dipoto values Marte over him, and it's not good running him out in different posisitions every day.

LoMo or Trumbo needed to go. With Cruz at DH, we can't have two 1B/DH types when one is automatically filled. Trumbo as the starting 1B for 2016 (barring any other big moves) over LoMo excites me, as Trumbo got hot as hell at the end of last year and LoMo is pretty much Smoak 2.0 for us.

Farquhar, meh. Good 2014, bad 2015, not sure what to expect. Knowing the M's luck, Lord Farquhar posts amazing numbers and becomes TB's 8th inning guy behind Box.

As far as our return, Karns is a guy I like. I think he slots in as a back end of the rotation guy. The lefty reliever whose name I can't remember hot to spell hopefully gives us a good left to use if we don't get Beimel back behind Furbush. And Powell seems like he could take our starting CF spot as soon as next year anyway. He's a bit young, but is the type of guy we need. A speedy, toolsy OF with good OBP skills.

Looks like Rays got major league talent (average talent) in exchange for potentially average major league talent.

I was listening to Sportsnet's Blue Jays podcast from a couple days ago and apparently there's speculation (at least from one of the hosts) that Bud Black could find his way into the Jays organization whether as a minor league instructor or in the front office. He'd clearly be the next manager whenever they get rid of Gibbons if that were the case.

Not really hot stove related, but the Dbacks are getting new uniforms this upcoming season.
