Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
I am just SMDH at my Braves even thinking of trading SS Simmons. Defense and pitching wins championships! Especially up the middle and the range this guy covers. Yeah he's a .240 hitter with some pop. He doesn't strike out a lot! We have a need at 3B pooka boo in the room again and don't let me get started on we need a new skipper..... Unless we can trade Simmons to the Blue Jays for 3B Donaldson. Its pointless!Comment

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
I'm guessing Hart and Co. feel like the Braves aren't going to be a quick fix and need to get as many good young parts and a very good every day guy to replace Simmons. I dunno, it'd have to be one heckuva deal IMO. If I were the Braves i'd hang onto him for as long as I can. I mean he isn't that old.
As for Chapman...He'd look great in a Jays uniform but I doubt that they're one of the teams gunning for him right now. Shapiro and LaCava seem to be going "steady as she goes" right now. There is talk they may trade one of their LFs/prospects to address their needs. It almost sounds like the "trade Tulo" option may be dead right now but anything can change.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
Braves fans...our FO would be foolish NOT to listen to offers on Simmons. As has already been mentioned, it's a rough FA market for SS and with Simmons being under team control for 5 more years at a bargain price, he's your best chip.
I don't want to trade him, BUT you have to listen to other team's offers...and if you get knocked over, it's the right move. It's our FO job to put together the best team/organization possible...they can't do that if they don't at least put our best chip out there."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. If a roster player is gonna be dealt, I think it has to be Tulo or EE. Trade Tulo while his value is still unchanged from when they got him. I know they're adding dirt to the infield next year, but even then, should he get injured at any point in the season, will be harder to deal him at deadline(if Jays aren't in contention) or end of year(should Bautista/EE both be leaving, and team is re-tooling things/building around Donaldson/Martin).
And dealing Tulo doesn't mess up chemistry since he wasn't really around for so long either. Perfect scenario for me would be dealing Tulo for a much cheaper SP, and then signing Asdrubal Cabrera to play SS. So we find a suitable replacement at SS(allowing Goins to either be the backup SS/2B,or starting 2B if Travis isn't healthy yet), and get a good SP,both of which their combined salaries might equal(or be less than) Tulos salary.Comment

Revere's name wasn't mentioned in the article I read. If they're going to trade one of the LFers it's going to be Saunders or Pompey.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
It definitely shouldn't be Pompey. Saunders I'd deal for sure then if that's the case. I'd even consider just walking away from the arbitration with him(he's projected to get 2.9M in arbitration). Almost 3M for a guy who we don't know if he's 100%,and is one of 2-3 guys competing for the 4th OF position. I'd rather Pompey and Carerra compete for that 4th spot and deal Saunders, even if it's for a bullpen arm(which Jays obviously need too)Comment

Is defense truly valued as much as an offense? No, and that's without question as well. He hasn't posted an OPS > .700 so that's pretty much all a team is getting is tremendous defense and anything beyond that is gravy. Maybe that's why Atlanta wants to move him - if so, that's a terrible decision - but I don't believe it's because of a lack of offense.
I understand that, relatively speaking, any player should be available for a deal/players that simply cannot be refused. Unfortunately, I don't feel like we'll really get the value for Andrelton that we should. There's no other "bad" contracts we have that we could cipher off in conjunction like we did with BJ/Kimbrel or Alex Wood/Chris Johnson. In addition, we don't really have any valuable veterans on this team lift up the value of the trade. With all of the work Hart is done, I don't forsee him moving young players out.
So what could we package in a trade along with Simba? Is it likely Simba alone will merit a team giving up an A-prospect? Cameron Maybin is the only valuable player I see ATL packing with Andrelton but not much after that. Beyond some out of the box thinking, I just don't see where we would get an A-level prospect out of a potential HOF defensive player.
Whether y'awl care or not, the homer in me wants SOMEBODY to cheer for...that needs to be a focal point for the organization too right? They have to make a profit so that means they need players that the fans can get behind. God forbid that we turn into the 76ers with a bunch of no-name tankers or (gasp) like the Marlins.Last edited by Speedy; 11-12-2015, 04:10 PM.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
