Nine SP (Price, Greinke, Zim, Happ, Lackey Estrada, Pelfrey, Anderson, Hill) have signed this winter. Total value of their deals: $655.3M.

            According to Jeff Passan.

It's probably way less with CA taxes anyway, but I don't know the rates in Arizona to compare. I would take every penny on my last contract if I was him too, I'll never get why people (not here in this instance) get upset when guys take the money and run, it is a job after all.

Rosenthal says some of the money is deferred, I'm guessing like Scherzer's contract. It'll be interesting to see what kind of magic GM's will do in the future with this option out there.

Just saw a tweet saying that California's tax rate was 13.3%, while Arizona's was only 4.54%. So you were correct, he's getting more in Arizona.

206.5 M over 6 years, 34.42 M per year. No opt out, so he's with the Dbacks for the duration. Well done Arizona.

Mike Pelfrey is meh. Pitching depth is always good though.

Good gawd man! We're also on the cusp of seeing Bryce Harper angling to become the first $400 million dollar man. The money in baseball is flowing like water.

I can't wait to hear Arizona fans crying during years 4-6 of that deal.

Yeah, if he didn't have a durability issue he'd almost automatically get that 400 mil deal. You never know though as Boras is his agent and he'll move heaven and earth to get as much money as he can.

All this money being thrown around...and Colin Cowherd or some other NFL loving analyst will tell me "baseball is dying".

I can still remember when Kirby Puckett was the highest-paid player at $3M per year. Nowadays, that gets you a middling reliever.

                          It's just stupid money now.

I'll never forget when Ryne Sandberg became the highest paid player...$28 for 7 years. There was an outcry for a) the contract and b) that it went to a 2B.

I remember when the Blue Jays had the top payroll in baseball for 3 out of 4 years between '92 and '95.
