Long story short (EDIT: too late), I've seen people chase money before in all walks of life to yield unsatisfactory results for themselves or their company. In the past four seasons under Magic's ownership where the Giants have won two championships and the Dodgers have not won a pennant, I truly believe there has been a cancerous clubhouse effect with certain individuals within that organization. Mattingly, Puig, and H. Ramirez may have been the largest parts of it, who knows... I'm not saying the Dodgers can't win with these players, I'm just saying the front office decidedly picked individuals to place on a field and wished them the best of luck, when we know this has faltered many times recently (Marlins, Blue Jays, Tigers, Red Sox, Mariners, Padres)... anyway, you have players willingly walking from that team despite the money, and you have players like Greinke just asking, "How many zeros are on this check? Okay, I'll go with them."
And keep in mind, I'm not saying Arizona is a bad organization at all and there aren't possibly other reasons that Greinke might have joined with them. But you can tell he walked away from his last team with ease without needing to bat an eye just to consider going to not one but two division rivals, one which is championed with strength in numbers on the club and in the fan base, in a pitcher's park no less... and he rejected them as well. I just know that money spoke the most.
Don't try and look too much into it. It just rubs me the wrong way. It just does. I can't explain myself well enough, therefore we can just place this as an "uncommon opinion." Though this wouldn't be the first time somebody has taken a single instance about somebody and has made it define their impression of them for the rest of their lives. It happens on this very message board, even regarding myself. I wish it could be explained better or perhaps better resolved.
All told, I'm not only glad the Giants didn't get Greinke, but I can't wait for them to have the chance to rake against him on the field... though the opposite is extremely more likely to occur.
