    2015 MLB Hot Stove thread

I just don't get it. The Josh Donaldson trade, the Martin signing. Finding a way to keep Navarro here in a backup role. Taking a chance on Colabello. Finding Smoak. Trading Gose for Travis. Let's not forget the drafting of Stroman, Sanchez, Osuna. These were bold moves that should have been enough for him to get the extension he wanted and deserved. Then there's the trade deadline, if the rest wasn't enough. The only move of his that I would take back is the Dickey trade. Syndergaard and d'Arnaud seem to be proving their worth.

He may have sold the farm, but he brought in a combination of players that, in my opinion, were capable of winning the WS. The 'win now' attitude was a refreshing one and was something this franchise needed. A taste of what winning felt like. A hunger for more. If that means selling the farm, then so be it. Stocking the system with prospects gave us 22 years of misery. A taste of winning, a relevance within the league (they had no choice but to broadcast the Jays on Fox), may have enticed potential free agents or players who have a no-trade clause to Toronto ("Trade me right ****ing now. Just not to Toronto.") to reconsider their options.

I always felt that his job was not just based on responsibility but more about his actual love for the team. Just look at how happy he was when they clinched, or won the ALDS. I'm going to miss that the most.

Read this article and try to deny his passion for this team: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb...the-blue-jays/

Don Mattingly as manager and Dan Jennings has been fired entirely? Solid day for this fish. I like this hire, get an actual breathing manager/player to coach the young players

Good. Redmond shouldn't have been fired in the first place and Jennings just sabotaged himself with the thought he could've done better.

I'll presume Mattingly knew Jennings was out when he took the job.

I wouldn't want a GM job in Oakland...would Beane really take a hands off approach? Very dubious.

I find it interesting that AA was offered a 5-year extension (likely several $MM, especially being executive of the year) and turned it down. The conversation with Shapiro must have just torched AA into thinking he would be a sitting duck.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Navarro isn't any good. Bello is meh. smoak is meh. He also took Deck over Sale/Grandal. He lost at least $100m in surplus with the Marlins deal and probably more than that with the Dickey deal.

He made some very good moves and some massive mistakes. He was decent enough. Shapiro is better. Moving on.

Yea Cherrington has found a job. But if he gets offered a GM position he's taking it. GM's salary > college professor teaching 1 class. Also GM > professor in general.

He's obviously gonna deny any sort of criticism about the negotiations, but I'm sure it probably had to do with lack of freedom he'll have as GM. After doing things one way for the past 5-6 years, they're trying to get him under contract for another 5 or so years, doing things a completely different way, basically reporting everything to higher ups.

He likes building the farm, and has built it better than probably anyone in the Jays the past 15 years, but he also likes dealing those prospects for established guys, something Shapiro didn't really do when he was in Cleveland since Cleveland had lower budgets to work on,so they couldn't really afford to take on bigger guys.

Billy Beane ia no longer the GM in Oakland anymore he got promoted the day after the season ended. David Forst is now the GM.

I think Speedy's view is still valid. Forst is now GM just like Art Howe was Manager from 96 to 02 (everyone's seen Moneyball right?) .

Beane has come out and stated Forst will make all the decisions.

Furthermore, he's alluded to the fact that Forst has been doing the day to day duties for a while now.

Also, Moneyball's movie was not in any way shape or form accurate.

Also the same guy that said Donaldson was untouchable.

While Hollywood of course, the relationship with Howe in which Beane managed the lineup pretty accurate.

Yeah, Beane isn't really the personality type to cede control to someone else. I bet Forst will make 'all of the decisions' just until Beane inserts himself into the decision-making process on an 'as he pleases' basis.

Braves picked up Chris Volstad for a minor league deal and an invite to ST.

Guy was decent with a 3.18 ERA (3.16 FIP) Pittsburgh's AAA affiliate (Indy) this year.
