Cubs look to win #96 tonight. With the Nats getting shutout, HFA is almost decided (Magic # = 3).

Jon Lester has been a man on fire down the stretch. Counting tonight, Lester has not allowed more than 2 runs in any of his previous 10 starts. He is 18-4 with a 2.36 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. He has to be the NLDS Game 1 starter.

And how about Bryzzo coming down the stretch?

        Bryant: .296/.388/.562 37 HR 97 RBI
        Rizzo: .293/.389/.550 31 HR 104 RBI

You almost can't tell these guys apart based on offense alone. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up with identical triple slash lines.

He's the youngest Red Sox player to reach 200 hits since Johnny Pesky in 1942.

          As for Pesky:

1942- led AL in hits (rookie season)
          1943- WW2
          1944- WW2
          1945- WW2
          1946- led AL in hits
1947- led both leagues in hits
Mookie is first MLB player with 200 hits, 100 runs scored, and 100 RBI in a season since Cabrera's '12 Triple Crown year

Jays killing Mariners in the 4th inning from Safeco Field in Seattle,Canada. 8 run 4th inning! 9 straight batters went to the plate and got on base.

Unfortunately, looks like Red Sox could be pulling away with the AL East, unless Jays can finish 1-2 games better than them from now till the final series of season(which will be vs the Red Sox),and then go crazy and sweep that series.

But more realistically, it could set up a Jays-Rangers ALDS rematch(if Jays hold on to WC spot/win the WC game)

              Crawford and Cueto hurt.

Time for the bullpen to blow it again.

And of course, the Mariners have chosen to fold under pressure. Disappointment yet again.

Astros pull out another tight one in Oakland, a 2-1 win in 10 innings.

2 games out of the WC with a soft relatively schedule to close the season. Who knows?

Yankees still hoping for a miracle, all we can do is keep winning. Gary is just the man. I'm hoping he can pull off the McCovey third of a year ROTY win, but Fulmer has to have it locked up. Still, these voters love a story. I'd prefer he have the McCovey career vs the one year anyway.

On the NL side, love to see my guy Jose do what he does, but the Nats are trying so hard to save me money and lose the 2 seed I don't even know what to make of it. Lucky the Dodgers lost.

Side note, what is with Jose's home/road splits? I understand home field advantage, and that Marlins Park is super low in Park Factor, but his splits are just crazy. And it basically goes over a full season for his career now. Lefties on the road slash 277/372/481 against him this year.

Braves need just 3 more wins in last 11 games to avoid 100 losses...man, if you had told me that was a possibility after the 9-31 start I wouldn't have believed it. Brian Snitker has done a great job and the offense has really been good in the 2nd half.

Braves' triple slash at the ASB: 237/300/349
                      Braves' triple slash today: 254/320/382

3 way tie for 2 spots in the National League Wildcard.

This is going to be a fun ride.

If I were you, why should you concern yourself with trying to win the East when you are on a path to another amazing ALDS matchup with Texas? You don't really want to get stuck playing the Indians, do you?

The Sox have hit 21 homers at Camden Yards this year. That's the most all-time by a visiting team at that ballpark.

Who knows the Indians better than Shapiro/Atkins(Jays president/gm)? And Carrasco is out for the season too so that'd hurt them abit.

But Texas is an unknown matchup in ALDS. They haven't faced Jays since May, and both teams were much diff teams back then. Only thing to worry about for Jays fans is that Texas is better now than they were in last years ALDS, and Jays are worse than last years ALDS(there's much less momentum on Jays side right now compared to last year with just 11 games left). I guess it's better that Jays don't play Cleveland since the Cleveland series was really one of the first signs of disaster which began the Jays long slump.

The Orioles are playing even worse and are practically done at this point. You'll pass them and Detroit soon enough.
