    Re: 5/1 - 5/14 Game Discussion Thread

I love how Mike Trout posts in incredible April (he's on pace for about a 15 WAR season), wins AL player of the month, and it's almost like you wouldn't know he's in the league. Maybe if he played for the Yankees he'd get the pub he deserves, but good grief I can't recall a player being so good and getting so little pub for it.

I live in the Chicago sports radio area and this week they were talking about Kris Bryant's contract situation...they made the statement that he has probably passed Mike Trout for best player in baseball. The radio went off...

I'd like MLB to look at how the NBA does things where if a player leaves the bunch it's an automatic suspension.

We're not in 1960 anymore...throwing 100 mph at a guy is not an formidable means of revenge.
You can't really tell if something is intentional or not. Take the 2 scenarios from this series.
Dylan Bundy hit Mookie Betts when the O's were up 2-0 in the 6th with a hot hitter on deck. Obviously in retaliation of Barnes throwing at Machado's head, which Torre deemed was likely unintentional, but could've been intentional.
Yet Sale last night after striking out the first two hitters on 8 pitches and then goes behind Machado, doesn't hit him but goes behind him and that's deemed intentional, which once again it definitely was.

Yea I just looked and he does lead the league. Only major one he doesn't lead is K's, which Sale leads in.

Also and now this from Rosenthal: CLARIFICATION: Discipline for Sale, if administered, will not necessarily be suspension. Could be something less - warning or fine.

So what you're telling me is that a local Chicago sports radio station is pumping up a Chicago player? What an outrage!

Sale and Keuchel are 1b/1c and will certainly end up having a better season. I'm in shock more than anything regarding Santana.

Yea I agree with you. When I saw those stats I was definitely in shock. What does Santana's contract look like? Is he up after this year or does he still have term left on it after?

He's under contract through 2018. 2019 if he pitches either 200 innings in 2018 or a combined 400 in 2017-18.

Can't talk about the amazing players and stories. Have to talk about beanings and brawls and bitching and boorish, backwards fans instead.

Well that's the Chicago market for you

Seriously though, I remember earlier in Trout's career he WAS getting a lot of publicity but the Angels were also somewhat of a relevant team at the time as well. I think if the Angels still had a higher profile and regularly in the playoff hunt you'd hear more about him. It's always harder for a player to get tons of love when they play on the west coast and it's even harder when you're not playing for the Dodgers or Giants.

                      Re: 5/1 - 5/14 Game Discussion Thread

I think the "problem" (and I use that extremely loosely, as I and nobody here has any issue with it) with Mike Trout is that he's too respectful. He's no Bryce Harper, he's CLEARLY no Machado. He just does everything the right way, says all the right things, and lives with being the best baseball player in the world.

That's why the media doesn't want to cover him. The only story on him is how incredible he is. He doesn't talk about how how much he doesn't respect a single person in another organization, he doesn't insult the media, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I love everything about Bryce Harper. But I'm just trying to state a reason as to why nobody talks about Trout.

For example, nobody really cared about what McCutchen was doing this year until Marte got suspended and Cutch was seen on TV mouthing the words "This is my spot". The media only cares about the drama.

It was an absolutely dumb call, but after the last two weeks it's clear they aren't gonna take a single chance.

Feel so bad for Gausman. Kid doesn't deserve to get tossed.

You throw him Gausman out on a curve ball. Lol ok. That makes perfect sense.

Judge again? This is just unreal. This is crazier then what Sanchez did last year.

I'm shocked it's taking pitchers this long to adjust to him. Unless they are, and he really is as good as advertised.

I don't watch enough Yankee games to see exactly how he's being pitched. But it seems like he's hitting everything out right now, regardless of location.
