That NTC that Cecil has will make it virtually impossible unless he feels like he should get out of dodge.

Wow, 4 players for Phelps! Is he having that good of a year?
It's more of a 4 small piece deal rather than a couple top 10 prospects. PLus the M's farm sucks lol

        Brewers apparently interested in Verlander.

Eh, doesn't seem like a good fit. I doubt he waives the NTC to go there even if they wanted to overpay him through 2019.

Dodgers DFA Sergio Romo. There might be a trade in the works there.

Twins and Braves are discussing Jaime Garcia. He will probably be dealt rather quickly.

EDIT: Ken Rosenthal just tweeted Twins are close to acquiring Garcia.

Also...Aaron Blair was scratched from his start tonight at AAA. I don't know if that means he's involved in the talks or if they want to call him up to start tomorrow.

Any word on what the Twins would be sending back?

I like the Garcia acquisition for the Twinkies. He isn't going to put a team over the hump but he's a really good guy to have backing up Santana in that rotation.

Nothing yet. He's a rental so I wouldn't expect anything crazy.

Rosenthal also just tweeted that the A's have scouts at AA Trenton tonight. The A's have apparently given the Yankees their asking price for Sonny Gray

Last I've heard is the return on Garcia is a single minor leaguer...doesn't sound like much if that's the case. Deal is being finalized right now...

We may be sending a low level prospect along with Garcia to the Twins. That's from one of the Twins writers.

We better be getting more than a single minor leaguer back...you don't trade an established ML pitcher and a minor leaguer for a minor leaguer. Maybe the Twins have given up on Buxton?

In at least 2 of those 3 cases you cited, it turned out pretty well. No one longs for the dark days of over-paying for Bobby Higginson and Dean Palmer while hanging your hopes on the likes of Frank Catalanotto and Robert Fick to be able to hit enough dingers to lose 7-4 on a nightly basis, but if it's done intelligently with real commitment, it can be a productive destruction. But clearly, it's easier said than done, and when the team becomes irrelevant again for a while, it totally sucks...
The biggest downside would be if you whiff on the initial rebuild trades, which basically would leave you as an expansion team rebuilding through the draft, plus whichever guys you sign and trade at the deadline. Hopefully the Tigers have the right owner and FO in place for a total rebuild. While I agree that they need to commit 100% to a rebuild, they also need to be opportunistic and not just ship everyone out in one offseason.

The Twins have absolutely not given up on Buxton from what I've heard around here. I'm by no means connected to the squad or in the know, but they'd be stupid to give up on him, especially after seeing what Hicks has turned into with the Yankees. Speaking of the Yankees....

Sounds like Houston has cooled off on their Sonny Gray interest, but there's a lot of smoke around the A's/Yankees negotiations. I'd bet on him going to NY. They have a need and I read an article today where it said the Yankees' surplus on the farm will need to be addressed re: Rule V draft because they won't have enough room on their 40-man to keep all of them, so they might have to deal them for MLB talent to get something out of them. That's why I think they get Gray. They can offer more than just about anyone.

No deal is in place right now between Braves and Twins for Garcia.

Braves talking to other teams on Garcia.
