Lol I love the whole tone of that secret free agent camp article. Baseball media working overtime to turn the fans against the players this offseason.

Ain't nobody turning me against the players. I'd take a bullet for Mookie Betts.

SMH...this is the kind of crap that leads to a work stoppage down the road. Let's not kill the golden goose, guys.

Y'know, the players are definitely doing a great job of turning people against them. This is definitely the kind of thing that leads to a work stoppage AND unproductive feelings on both sides.

You'd think the Free Agents would welcome SOME scouts or front office muckety mucks to go there and see how they're doing. Maybe, just maybe they can even work out the generalities of a possible deal for themselves but here they go, shooting themselves in the foot. I'm sure there are some "normal people" like us who'd like to see some of these guys too. Turning people away like this is just asking for trouble both in getting deals signed and PR for the players.

They don't have jobs, why would they be putting on exhibitions for the media? Why would they work out for front office guys that know exactly what they're capable of? They told the media, you are not allowed here. Sending this guy to drum up this nonstory and then trying to play victim like the dudes without jobs aren't giving them enough access is exactly what I'm talking about.

They are professional athletes who have all made millions of dollars in their career. There are those there that have offers on the table for multiple years for multi millions of dollars.

Let's not use this terminology to pretend as if the players are some sort of victim either, as if they are some blue collar worker who is trying to make ends meet and support a family but can't find work.

This whole thing is turning into a circus.

I didn't say the players were victims. Do they or do they not have jobs? I said, as free agents, they have no reason to put on a showcase for media members. Do you disagree?

The person that showed up was actually a front office person (an assistant GM is what I read) who wanted to watch a work out. I mean...if you are holding spring training as a FA, wouldn't you want teams watching you? It just comes across as spiteful and a power play.

They don’t have “jobs” but you’re wording was playing them off as victims, or should be pitied because they don’t have jobs.

I don’t see the big idea if media is there. They had no problem going to the media to let it be known they were having this camp so why should they care now?

My bad about the front office guy. He was a special assistant, the same article talks about a media member being sent by his job, who knew the media was not allowed.

Spring Training is only a tryout for minor leaguers, though. As a major leaguer, if they have any need for it at all, it's to work the kinks out and get ready. Pitchers are building up strength, hitters getting back in against live pitching...it's not necessarily a place I'd want to be seen. Either way, a power play to what? Are media members invited to private workouts all the time?

You read too much into the statement "they don't have jobs". If they were signed (had jobs), they would be obligated to entertain the media and the fans. As free agents (people without jobs), they have no such obligation. That was it. This is about grown men who travel and play a game as their profession. It wasn't that far away from the circus in the first place. I guess when people aren't getting signed, the media has to write about something.

The MLBPA told the media about this secretive camp...lol

Why should they be upset the media is trying to cover it?

Exactly! They can't have it both ways. You want the media to know you're holding your own ST then you better be damn well aware the media in some form will want to cover the goings on and to see what is actually happening.
