Phillies sign Drew Hutchison to a Minor League deal with an invite to Spring Training. He'll compete for a spot in the rotation.

I thought we were waiting on Darvish to sign for the market to finally open up.... This is getting so ridiculous now.

Man, his career really took a nose dive. I always liked the guy and thought he could be a pretty good starter. His last full season in Toronto he had a real crazy home/road split as he was dominant at home but couldn't pitch his way out of a wet paper bag on the road. His 2015 was definitely one of those years where W/L meant absolutely nothing.

                    Stove's heating up now.

I have a feeling this is more on the agents who don't want to lose control of their players because they feel said players will probably cave in a situation like that.
I don't know if it's all on the agents. Maybe, but last year Jeff Francoeur decided to retire rather than even attend a spring training invite from the Braves. I'm going to paraphrase a bit, but the reasoning he gave in a local interview was that he didn't feel he "should have to to try out" for a spot at this point in his career, and that the team should either sign him or don't because they should know what he is. If a career fringe starter felt that way in his 30s I'm not at all surprised that the mentality would permeate throughout the ranks. Just 1 example though so who knows.

The agents and the players are essentially the same person in this instance. The agent doesn't just go off and do what he wants without the players permission. If they wanted to accept the offers they have, they would.

Doesn't sound so thick skinned to me if he had to emote on Twitter about it.

He walked that back a bit later on on twitter. Hold on, let me find it:

Just being real. Not mad at all. I’m aware of the business. Just opens your eyes going through the arbitration process. Second time going through it. Still love my team and the entire country of Canada. More upset that I had to fly to AZ and miss my Monday workout. Lol
                            He also deleted that tweet.

This is par for the course with Stroman. The kid has a lot of talent but he really thinks his crap don't stink. He constantly goes on social media and looking to hog the spotlight. He's definitely very immature that way and it's grating on the fans. I'm sure management isn't exactly keen on his social media activities either.

Meh, I see they'd rather go cheap than go out and get some length with Cobb or Lynn. Garcia is a good enough stopgap back of the rotation guy though. He should eat up some innings.

EDIT: There's a club option for 2019 as well.
