John Smoltz saying a lot of stupid things during this broadcast. Chiefly, he's advocating for the "runner on base to start extras" crap because the poor baby has to commentate on a game that goes into extras.

It'll never reach the majors but if it does that'll be the day that I stop watching baseball. Also the batting out of order discussion was silly at best because I'm not paying to see Mike Trout bat time after time. I'm just hoping this whole home run fad dies down eventually or at least that batters learn to avoid strikeouts. This is more of a personal thing since I'd rather see triples than homers, players moving rather than the ball. Additonally, It's a good thing I'm not a manager because I'd consider fining players for each strikeout to get those numbers down. I also wouldn't last very long as manager.

The Cubs have stranded 17 men and struck out 24 times in this game. They haven't lost yet though.

LOL. Javy pulls 100 MPH over the fence coming off the bench. Not bad. I'm liking this 14th inning for the Cubbies. Great outing for Farrell in relief as well.

The Cubs have stranded 17 men and struck out 24 times in this game. They haven't lost yet though.

Another Yankees game rained out. Pretty sure they now have four games to make up.

Cubs have stolen home and scored on a sacrifice fly to the 2B in the same inning. I only have radio but some strange things going on at Citi.

It was pretty good on TV also. Very cagey stuff. First, knowing that Matz has trouble holding runners, Willson Contreras faked a steal of second. So on the very next pitch, Matz threw over to first with Javy breaking immediately to home as Matz started his pickoff move. Then, with Willy on 3rd base later in the inning, Mets 2B Guillorme was floating back to catch a fly ball, Willy noticed his momentum was going the wrong way and tagged up. If Guillorme had deferred to Jay Bruce coming in from his RF position on the play, Contreras wouldn't have tried it.

Rare to see the Cubs (or any team for that matter) playing the small ball game.

I'm hoping the Pirates get a hit only if so the TV crew will cease talking about the no hitter and "jinxing it". This is one of the things in baseball that irritates me because my saying "no hitter" during a no hitter does not in any way impact the game just like how saying shutout has no impact on my performance as a goaltender. I really wish this silly thing would stop.
Yes I know it's probably a minor thing but it gets under my skin almost as much as the non-existent game length issues.

That all said, I'm glad to see Meadows in the lineup because my fantasy team could really use the points. Though unfortunately with the rainout of the Yankees game, it's too late to swap out my 3B to use someone who's actually playing.

I can see Freese because he's liked in st louis and it's a class move but with the off day coming up I'm not sure why Mercer isn't starting. I do like Sean Rodriguez but with that average I'll amend my liking to him as a defensive replacement for Frazier.

Been a while since the Cards had one of these going IIRC. Quick check of ESPN.com says Bud Smith in '01, but is that really the most recent one?

They've had other close calls I think - I seem to remember Anthony Reyes in the middle of one.

According to what I heard on the Pirates radio broadcast that's what they said as well.
