I heard this morning on sportscenter that the Mets are waiving Pedro's MRI. In other words, it won't be a part of the physical. I guess they're that desperate to make a splash and aren't took confident it will happen if Pedro's shoulder is checked out. For you Sox fans, Bill Simmons's column on ESPN page 2 is a must read for some consolation and some good perspective.

Just in, Schilling may miss the opener because of his ankle surgery! Super.

Simmons is probably my favorite sports writer. He's witty and clever and his column on Pedro is very well done. It captures how I feel perfectly and I can definitly relate to the sentiment about feeling a need to get to a TV set whenever Pedro was pitching. We may not have won a title until now in Boston, but we really were spoiled as baseball fans when we got to watch Pedro in his prime every fifth day.

Yah I agree. As a baseball fan and a die hard Red Sox fan I felt privileged to watch Pedro pitch. I have not, nor will I probably ever see a more dominating pitcher than Pedro was in 1999 and 2000.

Couldn't agree more guys. Pedro was the Sandy Koufax of our generation, but the truth is, he's a handful and a shrewd businessman at best. He understands the National League will prolong his legacy and the Sox understand he's too much of a risk for 3 years, nevermind 4. He didn't leave on a classy note, but then again, that's not what we have to remember him by thanks to his mastery on the mound and his contributions to a World Series title.

I still can't believe the Mets traded away Kazmir for Zambrano. I expect anyday for them to trade Wright for Cory Lidle or a C level prospect.

Can we please get over this deal? Its over and done with. We dont have Kazmir and we have Zambrano. As much as it may suck, we cant do anything bout it, has nothing to do with Minaya, and we cannot see the future of Zambrano or Kazmir. Remember the Mets Big 3 "cant miss" pitching prospects. (I even had the poster of Wilson, Izzy, and Pulsipher) Since then I do not put too much stock in "cant miss" prospects. Who was Jason Schmidt b4 he started to dominate? That could be Zambrano, Benson...ya never know.

Back to Pedro. This is a good deal for the Mets in my opinion. Mets needed an Ace, and they got one. Some are trashing the mets but what were their other options? Pavano is not proven and is no ace. Odalis Perez is good, young but no ace. Eric Milton...No. Pedro is one of the best of our time. If the Yankees got Pedro, everyone will say they have the money and its a good move. The Mets are screwed up from Steve Phillips/Jim Duquette (Although NO ONE thought that Alomar, Burnitz, Vaughn, Glavine, Floyd would all underachieve). It is up to Omar Minaya to try and fix this organization. We actually have an ACE and a complete rotation (No Jae Seo!!!) The Media is going to trash the Mets and the deal. Don't let it get to you Met fans. We missed out on Vlad last year and got trashed. We get Pedro this year, we get trashed. And if Pedro cant pitch much in year 4, I say send him to the Pen to close. This was a deal that the Mets needed to make. I'm tired of the Mets having the rep of the Team that people use as leverage.

Actually, the Red Sox were targeting Brad Radke and Pedro until it became all but certain Radke was going to end up back in Minnesota. Then they finally made an offer to Pavano but were never sold on him. Pedro they wanted, but only at the right price. I was surprised they budged from their initial stance on the third year and I'm glad they didn't go to four. Pedro went from throwing consistenty at 92 in 2002, to 90, in 2003, and to 88 in 2004 (at times only throwing 86) and his numbers reflect that. I think he has some juice left to put together a season that more closely resembles his 03 performance than his 04 one, but that window for excellence probably closes sometime in 06.

As a Met fan, I can't really say I'm happy. I don't know why.

Three years ago, I'd have loved this deal. Now.... eh, not so much. I guess we had to find a replacement for Leiter somehow.

So now that Pedro, Glavine, Benson, Zambrano... and someone else. (Ginter, maybe?)

I don't know what to think.
