Screw Peter Gammons and bitter Red Sox fans who a week ago talked about how great Pedro is, and now are saying that it might be a huge bust. This guy is not a power pitcher anymore, but with his movement and smarts, he is still a top notch pitcher.

Screw Peter Gammons and bitter Red Sox fans who a week ago talked about how great Pedro is, and now are saying that it might be a huge bust. This guy is not a power pitcher anymore, but with his movement and smarts, he is still a top notch pitcher.

And I just love how ESPN shows "Top 10 worst mets moves" - not like any other team makes those either (Ken Phelps for Jay Buhner??). Yes the Mets have made mistakes.. no one is saying how bad Florida is for signing Leiter, but just cause the mets sign (or will sign) Pedro, it may be bad

For people who do not think Pedro is declining rapidly:

2000 7.22 BR/9 IP 5.31 H/9IP 11.78 K/9IP 8.82 BB/K
2001 8.19 BR/9 IP 6.48 H/9IP 12.57 K/9IP 6.52 BB/K (only 116.2 IP)
2002 8.98 BR/9 IP 6.50 H/9IP 10.79 K/9IP 5.98 BB/K
2003 9.79 BR/9 IP 7.09 H/9IP 9.93 K/9IP 4.38 BB/K
2004 11.2 BR/9 IP 8.00 H/9IP 9.41 K/9IP 3.72 BB/K

Pretty much everything else has gotten worse as well (opponent SLG, OPS, OBP). Even his ground abll to fly ball ratio was out of whack last year and he's becoming more of a flybal pitcher than he used to be. Four years really makes no sense.

You and Peter Gammons are just 2 pissed Sox fans that are trashing Pedro NOW that he signed elsewhere.

Your tones would have been different if he would have re-signed with the BoSox. Period.

Despite the stats that show his decline, Pedro was still in or near the top 10 of every major pitching category in baseball. There's no doubt Pedro is still a great pitcher but he does have health concerns, as those of us who watched him on a regular basis over the past few seasons realize.

The disappointment among Red Sox fans was that Pedro expressed interest in returning to the Red Sox if they offered him a fair deal. They offered him a deal that was more than fair which he used to drive the price up on the Mets making him look like nothing more than a greedy jerk.

My personal opinion is that I didn't really expect anything different from Pedro. It has long been known that he equates money to respect. However, I will choose to remember him as the most dominating pitcher I've ever seen rather than a hired mercenary.

Bottom line is, if Pedro stays healthy, he is a great signing for the Mets and a huge loss for the Red Sox.

Yeah, his numbers show a decline... but what are his number in interleague play?? From what I remember, he DOMINATES NL hitting....
