Despite the stats that show his decline, Pedro was still in or near the top 10 of every major pitching category in baseball. There's no doubt Pedro is still a great pitcher but he does have health concerns, as those of us who watched him on a regular basis over the past few seasons realize.

The disappointment among Red Sox fans was that Pedro expressed interest in returning to the Red Sox if they offered him a fair deal. They offered him a deal that was more than fair which he used to drive the price up on the Mets making him look like nothing more than a greedy jerk.

My personal opinion is that I didn't really expect anything different from Pedro. It has long been known that he equates money to respect. However, I will choose to remember him as the most dominating pitcher I've ever seen rather than a hired mercenary.

Bottom line is, if Pedro stays healthy, he is a great signing for the Mets and a huge loss for the Red Sox.

Yeah, his numbers show a decline... but what are his number in interleague play?? From what I remember, he DOMINATES NL hitting....

Very good point and I think this was a big part of his decision to go to the Mets. By pitching in the NL, he can possibly lower is ERA and keep his pitch count lower.

You and Peter Gammons are just 2 pissed Sox fans that are trashing Pedro NOW that he signed elsewhere.

Your tones would have been different if he would have re-signed with the BoSox. Period.

No, I thought 3 years was taking a big risk and that 4 was just throwing money away. I would have been angry with the Red Sox front office had they given him 4 years. They already signed Wells and their best starter is closer to 40 then 30, I'd rather see them add a young arm, but didn't think Carl Pavano was the answer. As a fan of the Red Sox, I would have liked to have seen Pedro want to finish his career in Boston, but I'm not blind. I watched almost all of his starts this year and I saw a different pitcher. He was not very good this year, period. His best starts came against Tampa Bay, San Diego, LA, and one start against New York in April. I monitored his stats all season long with my jaw on the floor in reaction to how rapidly they were falling, just look at them! And on normal rest last year he was awful. He had more starts last year than I have ever seen before where he just didn't have it and in those starts he got shelled. Bottomline however, you don't know me, so don't make assumptions about how I would react to something that didn't happen.

I don't know Pedro's interleague stats, but I know two of his best starts this year came against the Padres, Dodgers, and Cardinals (in the World Series). He did not fair too well in San Francisco, and missed most of the interleague portion of the schedul in '03. He lost to Atlanta and Arizone in '02, but they were tough-luck losses to Greg Maddux and Curt Schilling. He'll have an edge going into the NL, because guys there haven't seen him much, but they'll catch up. I would guess he'd have a better first half than second, much like Clemens did this year.

I would agree with you fsquid. If he passes the physical (and I would put him through the ringer on this) he should be ok for the first half of the deal. Sure the Mets overpaid, but they had too or he wasn't coming. Everyone else slides down the line and the pitching gets better. Leiter was only a 6 or 7 inning guy anyway so it doesn't hurt them that much that Pedro doesn't go 9 anymore. They do need a more solid bullpen to help out the guys but that shouldn't be that much of a problem. I do wonder how they can say they traded Kazmir away because of the health concerns and sign Pedro who has the same concerns with his health and is 10 years older. They need a big bat in the lineup and call me crazy but they can compete in the NL East.
