The weird thing right now, albeit they've played 5 years in a row without a single day off, is absolutely nobody is hot. There is not a single hot hitter on the Cubs. Having a few guys slumping and 1 or 2 going well is kind of normal, but I can't think of a single guy in Yelich Mode right now on the Cubs. Funny that Mr. Consistency, Daniel Murphy, is probably the coldest of all--2 hits in his previous 26 plate appearances. Or maybe that's Rizzo, who has 3 hits in his previous 31 plate appearances. Rizzo is never content to be steady/average, that's for sure. He's either nuclear hot or absolute zero cold.

It may be a lost season for the Jays but it's always nice when we can make Buck Showalter's life miserable.

Almost had a triple play against em too.

Despite all my complaining, the Cubs are actually playing a decent game 2nite. The Professor will head back out for the 9th in a 1-hitter. Hendricks is still flirting with 90 MPH deep into this one--he's tough when he sits 88-89 and just a guy when he's at 85-86. KB17 goes oppo for his first homer in forever. He's looking hitterish once again. Baez hits #32 and comes close to #33. Bote gets an opposite field base hit. Russell with some throwing yips, but then makes a series of good throws afterward.

Some sad facts about this lost season:
-It will be 3rd worst Jays season of past 35 years
-Smoak currently has a 2.7WAR. The BEST among all Jays this year. He'll finish year either as the worst or 2nd worst WAR leader in franchise history (that includes the shortened 1981 season where they won just 37 of 106 games!)

Bright side right now at least:
Since Saturday, Jays have had starting pitchers aged 23-24. 2 of those games vs Yankees. Their combined numbers in these 3 games:

          20 Innings Pitched
          23 Strikeouts
          3 Earned Runs
          9 Hits
          7 Walks
          Which translates to a 1.35ERA and 0.800WHIP

Carry this over to next year with the young guys!

            Bowman tweeted this....

The Braves have issued 26 walks over their past 27 IP. Greg Maddux issued 23 BB over 209.2 IP in 1995, 28 BB over 245 IP in 1996 and 20 BB over 232.2 IP in 1997.

Atlanta has also issued 89 BB over 127 IP going back to Sept. 3. Maddux totaled 71 BB over 687.1 IP from 1995-97
            Christian Yelich is the man.

Went to the Rockies/Dodgers game. Practically the Joc Pederson show. Pathetic showing by Dodger fans, as per usual. Team is beating the team ahead of them in the standings and this game lets them overtake that team in the standings for first place on September 17th and Dodger fans were leaving in the 7th inning. This city doesn't deserve this team. SMH.

Missed the game last night due to recovering from surgery, but see that we beat the Braves 11-6 and get up by 1/2 game over the Rockies for the 2nd wildcard.

On a different note, what happened to the Diamondbacks? At one point they looked like a serious contender to win the West, and now they are what 5 back?

Their bullpen, which was a strength for much of the season, has worn down and is just abysmal now. I think MLB Rundown brought out a telling stat, the bullpen has a 7+ ERA this month.

Really enjoyed how aggressive Bob Melvin was in trying to take us on, doing a great job of countering our running game and really earning his money as a manager, making constant changes to try and get an edge. He's the AL manager of the year for me, probably the best in either division tbh
I was at Sunday's game, snoozer until the last inning, I think we'll finish north of 93 wins this year, just hearing that gives me chills! There's no way in hell I thought this team was going to win 75 games, let alone have an opportunity for 90+ wins. Kevin Cash earned his keep this year! #Rays

I really didn't think Acuna got all of that ball...and it bounced off the back of the bullpen wall. Young man has incredible power.
