Finally, the Cubs play St. Louis for the final regular season series...it would be sweet to clinch the division at Wrigley Field and knock the Cardinals out in one, smooth stroke.
If I could give you a 2/3 like a post option, I would, and a full one except that last paragraph.

Cards need to break their losing streak in Wrigleyville and the Brewers win out vs the Tigers.

Hopefully deGrom wins the Cy Young and we can bury the win stat forever (as a proxy for great pitching). Michael Wilbon will probably have a heart attack.

The Phillies aren't playing for you anymore, Kapler. Open your damn eyes.

Cervelli going all Carlos Lee "Cub Killer" against the Cubs for about the last 2 years. They can't solve this light hitting catcher, lol. He missed a game-tying homer by about 5 feet.

The Cubs are really lacking that punch at the end of their bullpen right now. Morrow is a setup man in a good bullpen and Strop is a 7th/8th inning guy--but both of them aren't even available. So we continue to MacGyver it in the late innings.

EDIT: And Justin Wilson blows it. Wrigley is quiet as a funeral home.

BTW - just to put it into perspective, the season DeGrom just put up is very similar to Pedro Martinez in 1999. The crazy thing is, Pedro had like FIVE of these seasons...
His adjusted FIP this year is 19% higher than '99 Pedro's, so I don't think so.

Comparable to any season from Maddux's, Clemens', and Johnson's peaks though.

I find it interesting that pending the results of tonight's games...the Rockies winning big, the Brewers having won, the Dodgers losing in the 4th inning, the Cubs choking the game away late...if the season ended after tonight, the Dodgers and Cubs would play in the 1-game wild card. Weird. The Braves, Brewers, and Rockies would be your division winners just like everyone thought in April...

I hope Joe Maddon realizes that, win or lose, his decision to pull Quintana with a 6-2 lead after 5 IP and 74 pitches was a pretty idiotic thing to do considering the state of the bullpen and having no closer on the roster.

Wasn't it one of Quintana's best starts over the last little while? I know all the analytics stuff but sometimes you got to go with your gut and realize that your bullpen is running ragged as well. I'd have given him a chance to pitch another inning or two.

Cubs win. 4 more games to play. Probably have to win 'em all to hold onto the division. I doubt Detroit takes a game off of Milwaukee.

With all the NL still up for grabs, remember, now all games this Sunday start at the same time.

                      This could get good.

I get that, but I was basing it on WAR. Both are around 10...I originally had Pedro’s 2002/2003 seasons listed, but Pedro’s WAR those years was only around 7ish.

Cubs (Pirates) and Rockies (Phillies) have interesting games tonight. If they win, then they are up a full game in their respective division with 3 games left to play. If they lose, then they are tied for the divisional lead with 3 games left to play.

                          Either way:

                          Cardinals @ Cubs
                          Nationals @ Rockies
                          Tigers @ Brewers
                          Dodgers @ Giants

Will be 4 series worth tuning into this final weekend of the baseball regular season.

As for the Cardinals, while mathematically they aren't required to do so to reach the playoffs, a sweep of the Cubs will most likely be required to get into the playoffs, or a potential tie breaker game to get into the playoffs.

Going to be an exciting, and as a fan excruciating, 4 days of baseball.

                          I love this game.
