I've watched about 6 innings of the mariners this year and I've seen their 3B make 4 errors now

        Idk about that.

I'd fear he'd be last year's Greg Holland, coming in late to the season with no ST, and be utter trash.

          There is also that worry.

If some Braves fans here think we are a contender then I guess signing Kimbrel makes sense then. I just don't buy it. We are not competing for a world series this year. Kimbrel alone will not make this pitching staff good enough to compete for a title. If this was a year where we could win it all and sign him for a year or two then go for it. It isn't. We are still years away from being a world series contender and I don't think it is wise to throw a huge chunk of money at a guy for multiple years at his age when he isn't the fix all.

Years? No...let's assume this year is a "down" year (ala Houston in 2016). We absolutely could be a legit WS contender next year and for the following seasons. Signing Kimbrel for 3 years absolutely makes sense.

That aside, I disagree...I think this team right now is good enough to get to the post-season and once you're in, anything can happen. Our starting pitching is actually coming along, especially if/when Folty returns and is healthy. I'm very happy with a rotation of Folty, Gaussman, Teheran, Fried, Soroka/Toussaint/Newcomb. The offense/defense is well above average. It's the bullpen...if we can fix that, we are in business.

We need a Frontline starter and like 6 bullpen pieces.

Other than that, we should be OK.

And this is exactly why we are not a contender. This team doesn't just have one or two minor weaknesses. The entire bullpen is travesty and the starting 5 is okay at best. Signing Kimbrel doesn't fix a whole lot because we aren't losing games because they get to the 9th inning and blow saves constantly. The second we put a bullpen pitcher in we're guaranteed to give up 5 runs in the next 2 innings. If we are up 8-2 every game and let the bullpen get it to 8-7 by the 9th for Kimbrel to get the save then it's a smart move I guess.

Fly balls are going to be a complete mess at Wrigley today.

Sure enough, four D-backs lose a Bryant pop-up in the wind with the bases loaded and two runs score.

And now we have the rare ground rule double at Wrigley that bounces over the wall (as opposed to getting stuck in the ivy), after another fly ball gets lost.

Here's the chart of Bryant's 2 RBI popup and the routes the fielders took on the play....yikes.

Edit: Actually that line is really wrong - the ball fell inbetween where the four fielders converged. But the routes, such as they are, look correct.

I really enjoyed watching that game. The wind made Major League fielders look like beer league softball players. How could you not laugh at their adventures?

Stop the presses! Socrates Brito actually had a base hit!

Jays lead 4-1 in Oakland early on.

Lyles with another strong start. Picking up Melky is paying dividends. Hope Marte is alright, Gonzalez might have gotten him seriously hurt.

Trout just smoked a 2 run bomb in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game.

Only reason a man was on in front of him was an error by the Mariners.

                              Good Lord.

EDIT: Wow, Tim Beckham comes right back and atones for his mistake. And now Omar Narvaez.

The only way this team is "years" away from world series contention is if the entirety of the minor league system flames out.

I mean stop to think for just 1 microsecond and you'll realize just how literally incredible your statements are. One of the youngest mlb rosters finished a season less than 8 months ago with 90 wins and possibly the best player from that roster wasn't on the team for 51 games. Even if the NL east was bad in 2018 you can't win 90 games with scrubs. That team also had probably the top minor league system and we will see many of the those top prospects this season.

So an already young and talented mlb roster that will start getting support from a highly ranked farm this season is still "years away"? Like I said, literally incredible.

Yeah the Braves still need some work they need a front line starter and several bullpen arms (one of those spots could be fixed by a certain free agent). Remind me though, what is the entirety of that highly ranked farm system built on? Oh right pitching.
