Mike Cameron is a much more valuable player than Eric Byrnes. Why would Billy Beane do this? Having Cameron roaming center helps the pitching staff out immensly. And he still takes walks and hits the ball out. He is the perfect type of player for them, not to mention I'm sure the Mets are paying alot of his salary....so ya, if Beane pulls this off, great move.
I don't think the Mets are paying anything off on his salary, thats why the move is great for the Mets, the mets free up money on this move. There maybe some others players involved but i'm not sure.

From what I've heard, the Mets are paying a small amount.

The fact of the matter is that with Beltran, there really is no place left on the team for Cameron (who im sure wants to stay in center). Getting a guy like Byrnes whose probably not making a ton is a good fiscal move for the team (they really dont need a high priced player at that position), and the Mets get a guy who fits right in with their building plans.
...bad company 'till the day I die.

Geez it's almost as if Beane is throwing everything away and hoping the A's turn into a great team in 4 yrs.

As Fsquid said if this trade goes through then Delgado will be in a Mets uni. Well at least it isn't the Yankees.

Very good move on the Mets side, if this deal goes through.

Nobody wants a whiner in the clubhouse, especially not one as wishy-washy as Cameron.

Byrnes should do well in the revamped New York lineup, and is very good defensively.

It's funny, he should've signed with us last year.

I love Byrnes. The guy tatooed lefties last year and that was the greatest weakness in the Mets lineup last year.

He's also a hard-nosed player and will be loved by the Mets faithful. We save some money, both teams get what they want. We get bullpen help as well.

I wouldn't fit Delgado for a Mets jersey just yet, the Marlins are still very interested and he still has a meeting with Texas (who just avoided arbitration and re-signed Alfonso Soriano, who may be traded to Houston). I think the Mets would be fine with a Doug Mientkiewicz or a John Olerud at 1B, but i just want to see Delgado sign with Florida!.

If the A's get Cameron than they would move Mark Kotsay to either LF or RF, Nick Swisher would play the other position and Charles Thomas would make a nice 4th OF off the bench. This is a good trade for both teams.
