Originally posted by KreditI'm not sure many would be willing to take on Chavez's huge contract, though..Eric Chavez made $5.3 million last year. If the Yankees are willing to pay $20 million for A-Rod at third, why wouldn't a team want to pick this guy up for around 1/4 of the price?

Re: Im so happy right now....BYE BYE Cameron (METS)
But the 5.3 was part of his old deal, whats his new contract calling for him to make? Though I see your point, whatever it is it can't be too high (no more than 12 million a year) considering this is the A's we're dealing with, and he is going to be significantly cheaper than ARod regardless. I don't think his contract would be much of a problem if Oakland decided to trade him, which I don't think they are considering. They made a commitment to him last year and I expect they intend to keep their end of the deal.Comment

CAMERON TO METS:
RIGHT ON! <!--start byline--> By MARK HALE
<!--start bodytext--> Mike Cameron will be relocating this season. But it won't be to Oakland or Arizona. Cameron, whose reservations about moving to right field had made him the subject of trade discussions, announced last night that he is now preparing to switch to right after all, a revelation that should keep the two-time Gold Glover in New York.
"That's the plan right now and [we'll] see what happens," Cameron said on a conference call.
The news is a reversal for Cameron, who had been having second thoughts about moving to right with Carlos Beltran set to take over in center. The Mets had discussions with teams about trading Cameron — possible destinations included Oakland, Arizona and Baltimore — but a contingent of team officials was able to convince him to change positions yesterday.
On their way down to their Dominican Republic baseball facility, Jeff Wilpon, Omar Minaya, Jim Duquette, Tony Bernazard and Willie Randolph stopped to visit Cameron at his Atlanta home. Cameron said the meeting was critical and answered a multitude of questions he had about moving. The Mets thought it necessary, too, especially to let Cameron know, in Minaya's words, "We don't take a change like [switching positions] for granted."
"It was important to meet with him because we think that Mike Cameron is that special player that we have to do those kind of things," Minaya said.
The development is certainly positive for the Mets, who should benefit from retaining Cameron. Although he hit just .231 last year, he slugged 30 homers, swiped 22 bases and ranked as the team's best all-around player.<!-- //-->
In a meeting with Mets brass in October, Cameron volunteered to switch to right if the Mets secured Beltran. But he began having second thoughts just before the New Year's.
"I had reservations about it for the simple reason of I've never done it before," said Cameron, who did not exactly sound thrilled about his new position last night. "The one thing we came to terms with [yesterday] was I'm here to do what's in the best interests of the ballclub and try to put this team back on the map."
Asked how hard it is to move, Cameron, who takes immense pride in his fielding prowess, replied, "Imagine someone coming in and telling you to do something different than you've always done. It's hard because I've always worked hard to excel at a certain spot."
If the Mets do stick with Cameron in right, that likely takes them out of the Magglio Ordonez sweepstakes.

The Mets still have not scheduled a follow-up meeting with Carlos Delgado's agent, David Sloane. The agent met with the Marlins yesterday, calling the conference "very productive" and indicating that the two sides would speak again shortly. Sloane also spoke with Baltimore and plans to meet with Texas Friday.
Delgado's camp has presented a proposal of five years and $80 million, according to a source familiar with the negotiations. Asked about the price tag, Sloane declined comment.
Also, the Mets signed reliever Roberto Hernandez to a minor league contract.Comment

Re: Im so happy right now....BYE BYE Cameron (METS)
but he said the same thing last year when the Mets played in KC - when the subject of Beltran was brought up, he said he would have been better off signing w/ Altanta, then he changes his tune, & then when the Mets actually get Beltran, he says he's not moving.. now he wants to try RF.. try that in Oakland or elsewhere.. i do not need a player that has to make a scene like this.. either he accepts a new position or he goes.. because if he continues like this, he will become a whinner & complainer which is not needed..Comment
