Haha what a bunch of trash this has been.

Game should be over but Minnesota Sports(TM) shows up.

Jays have sucked in most of their games this season but despite that, a win today puts them 1 game out of a playoff spot!?

The Os will be the Os and fall eventually, and the top 6 is a lock with Yankees,Rays,Twins,Indians,As,Astros.

So those final 2 spots could be a 5 team race.

Cardinals and Cubs with another double header today.

Jack Flaherty getting the ball in game one. Not sure who will toe the rubber in game two

This is what I can't stand about Tom McCarthy, Phillies TV PBP announcer. When Chavez struck out for the 5th time yesterday, McCarthy says "not that you'd want to see anyone do that." What in the actual **** are you talking about McCarthy!?! You're the Phillies announcer. You would hope that every player from the other team would strike out 5x against your pitchers! It's called contest and competition.... it's called beating your opponent! I swear the guy is such a cuck .... like he's running for MLB's student council or something. Not to mention the absolute fluffy nonsense he talks about 3/4's of the time. I would have watched with the Bosox announcers, but they are so damned 1 sided in their broadcasts it's nauseating. I guess I'll have to use my Chris Collingsworth mute button on my remote from now on.

I don't know, I don't often like seeing a player on the other team making a fool out of themselves either (that Michael Taylor 5 K game and losing on an error last year was brutal!). I know what you're saying, you want your team to do the absolute best they can. You just wish it wasn't at the other team's expense is all, maybe that's what he's saying. Often times, I like to just see a good sprinkle of everything. Or rather, something in one game then something in another game.

The only batter I really liked to see strike out a **** load was Sammy Sosa, especially after he signed with Baltimore. Most of it was my ego: in the year when he made the most money he had ever made ($17 million in 2005), I constantly made the outrageous claim before the season that Sosa would be a bench player. Low and behold, there were 13 Orioles with a higher OPS than he had, and he struck out in 20% of all his plate appearances (the next closest regular was Melvin Mora with 16.8%, but he also had an OPS .150 higher than Sosa's and only made $3.8 million that year). I was so thrilled to watch him crash and burn, yet I don't know why. I know a lot of people say this about Bonds, Rodriguez... maybe Ryan Braun when he was relevant?), but I guess it's just that I also just like putting my money where my mouth is and ending out on top as well.

Anyway, I digress. If a pitcher had nine strikeouts in a game and we won, I guess I'd much rather see a strikeout distributed to each player. It may speak more to the pitcher's ability to get anyone to whiff rather than just two players with 5 K and 4 K each "having a disastrous game."

Not defending McCarthy as a quality announcer, though. I don't like listening to him myself.

So as a football fan, if the opposing QB went 9 for 42 and threw 4 INT's you'd feel bad for him?

Well, I'm ready to move on to game 2. Alec Mills has not yet recorded an out in the ballgame and a Matt Carpenter Grand Slam has the Cards up 4-0.

For anyone not named Mark Sanchez, yep.

You don't ever acknowledge an opponent for hitting a bomb or making a great play, regardless of the sport?

This probably came with my coaching softball for seventeen years, and even an umpire. When I'm operating at a level where sportsmanship and fairness are both set at a premium, it probably molds me a little bit more.

In professional sport, I want to see my team do well, not the other team do poorly. Unfortunately, doing well always comes at the expense of the other team, and I'll never trade that away for any reason (that's why I don't draft players from teams I don't like in fantasy). But unless there are extending ulterior motives, wishing a golden sombrero is almost like wishing injury to me, something which nobody ever does.

Hang on, hang on. Jack's gotta pitch first. Been waiting weeks for this.

And Ian Happ pumps life into the Cubs, not that they didn't have any, but a homerun in the bottom of the first and suddenly its a 4-1 ball game.

I don't see the correlation at all. Wishing injury on opponent's player(s) is just a sign of ****ty character. But if my pitcher is bidding for a no hitter or to preserve a shut out or protect the 1 run lead, of course I'm going to welcome the 4th or 5th strikeout for a batter, if that's how the out gets registered. It's on that batter to do whatever adjustment he needs to for that moment and it sucks for him if he doesn't. Hoping he'd get drilled or hurt or what have you in relation to that is a totally different mind set. Totally different.

I guess what I was coming to is much more drastic, but a player's performances also can impact their livelihood as their futures hinge on those. Certain players can get demoted or signed for less, or not signed at all. Not from a single day's work (except for Bolsinger, haha).

Of course. As I said, I wish for my team to do well, which will often come at the other team's expense. It's unfortunate, but it does. And the point remains... it's unfortunate. It's the trade-off of having your team and its players do well.

The return of Adbert Alzolay. Eveyone was fawning for him last year, then he just kind of disappeared. Good to see him back in the big leagues, even if only for a spot start.
