Even Musgrove is working the count here. The D'Backs are fortunate they have a day off before they go to Coors Field.

I'm sure they'd get hot, but it's still crazy seeing umps as exposed as they are behind the plate.

Lots of their body isn't protected, and they're literally standing right behind the plate.

Not sure if you saw the replay, but it came upward from off the catcher's thigh. It was a strange pinball kind of play.

On that note, when I started out as an umpire for Little League, they supplied the gear, and it was literally the one time I umped behind the plate that for some reason there wasn't a throat guard piece attached to the mask that a ball was fouled just right of my Adam's apple. I had to go to the hospital for that one, and my parents were going to sue the league or something before they got some little small hush settlement, lol.

Anyway, I'm sure you guys are already seeing this guy's name everywhere, but man this Mercedes guy for the White Sox is absolutely on fire. I've had the fortunate pleasure of seeing every one of his plate appearances live so far. He just has nice hand action in combination with an explosive load (if there is such a thing).

Okay, so you can't make this stuff up.

One day, Raimel Tapia lets a ball go over the fence, and the end result is a single. Then two days later, Tapia keeps a ball from going over the fence, and the end result is a home run.

EDIT: Tried to meme it before bed lol.

I got to witness him make his monumental first out last night. I think I’ve watched more non Mets baseball these past three days than I’ve watched in the last ten years

Once again, I'm very glad to see pitchers hitting this year in the NL. Those who have come through in any particular way has delivered nothing but excitement in my book.

I'm also pleased to see that Ohtani got to not only hit before his pitching season debut (which we'll see how that fares given his blister), but he'll get to hit tonight during his pitching season debut as well! I believe he'll be 2nd in the order, which is quite thrilling to see.

Will be a great game to watch this evening.

Well I was literally thinking about the stock market, how Volkswagen screwed up on April Fool's Day, and how Mercedes-Benz can try and profit off this guy if he has a huge day on SNB (not that I'm hoping for that against Shohei, at least haha).

Any idea how that works rule wise? I know if you move your DH mid game to play defense you no longer have a DH and the pitcher has to hit. Is Ohtani the pitcher and the DH so he can still hit after he’s removed or do the Angels just have no DH today?

Just no DH. However, if MLB was smart they’d change to a DP rule instead who could hit for any player, not just the pitcher. The Angels could thrive off this with Shohei if they thought they had a better hitter in place of a better fielder.

Only a matter of time before Vladdy got his first HR of the season.

Fans wanting someone to throw it back, they kept it, fans boo.

Don't blame them. You got a HR ball from Vladimir Guerrero Jr, that's not worth throwing back.

Braves and Phils HP umpire has absolutely no consistency.

Now Grichuks turn for a HR. This time the fans throws it back.

Seems like a bad idea for Yankees to start German. His first start since being suspended last year for domestic abuse, teammates not happy about it, he made bad comments online in offseason, and they made his first game back a home start, and now he's pitching poorly.

Alejandro Kirk listed at 5’8” ....no way. Looks like a little leaguer playing with adults.

The decision to put him in the two spot is odd to me. More plate appearances could make some difficult decisions later in the game should he need to be pulled from the mound earlier than anticipated.

It won't happen but I would love to see them move him to the outfield when he's done pitching. Would be a cool double switch to see.
