Conforto is a holdover from the old CBA rules. There not being a draft pick attached to free agents would begin with the offseason following the 2022 season.

BUT, and this is huge, the qualifying offer draft pick compensation only goes away if MLB and MLBPA agree to an international draft by the July 25th deadline for an international draft starting in 2024. If they do not reach an agreement by the deadline the old CBA qualifying offer rules would be reinstated.

I believe the date is May 15th.

I think Riley Greene would have made it too had he not had a broken foot

Kwan also for Guardians starting as well.

But when teams who can be competitive just sell off assets because they "can't afford it", that's when you have a problem. At least in other sports if guys move on, its usually because they just don't want to be there anymore (NBA is the big example)

We'll see if the draft rules put in place in an effort to prevent teams from tanking works in the future. It certainly hasn't prevented the Reds or A's from selling off all players of value to spend as little money as possible in order to not win. I don't know why someone like Joey Votto would put up with it. If I was Votto I would have demanded a trade years ago.

It's only good if their growth isn't being stunted.

Baseball is hard. There's a reason why the vast majority of prospects take a while.

I hope these guys are good from the jump.

I guess my read on the Tigers picking up an outfielder was correct. I just get nervous when trading with the Rays.

Yeah every I feel like every opposing GM has to just hesitate and be like "what do they know that I don't...this trade seems too good to be true"

Maybe they unlock something with Paredes that the Tigers couldn't, but I think it's more likely that they draft some Gem-pitcher that gets overlooked with that comp pick and turn him into an ace

Looks like he'll get another shot.

He requested his release from the Jays because he wasn't making their 40 man roster. So he signs with the Yankees who also aren't putting him on their 40 man roster.

Padres appear to be stepping up in the Ramirez talks.

I could see Cleveland wanting Campusano and Cronenworth.

I wouldn't feel too bad about the draft pick, as the Tigers probably don't draft anyone the Rays would have. Plus Tampa has their own Comp B pick, so they now have 4 in the top 71 and as such they have lots of flexibility to go overslot on a player that Detroit would not have.

As far as Paredes, he feels like one of those guys that hit/feel guys that the Tigers can never make work but an organization like the Rays always does. At least in the DD/Avila era it's the ultra-toolsy guys the Tigers seems to make work when they don't elsewhere.

Maybe I'm overthinking it. The David Price and Edwin Jackson deals worked out fine for Detroit and Tampa.

BREAKING: Star third baseman José Ramirez and the Cleveland Guardians are in agreement on a five-year, $124M contract extension, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. Deal includes full no-trade clause. With this year and pickup of a 2023 option, Ramirez is guaranteed $150M.

Every once in a while it hits me how wild it is to see a guy getting a guaranteed 25 mil per year and think man he’s underpaid.

So happy the Guardians gave Ramirez an extension. And so happy he took that deal when he could have gotten more elsewhere. But he made it clear he wanted to stay in Cleveland for the rest of his career.

They also signed Emmanuel Clase to a 5 year 20M dollar extension. So it looks like they are serious about rebuilding and becoming a contender again.

I personally felt they should have extended Ramirez over Lindor anyway.
