The Mariners can eat that with so little on their books the next couple years.

I’d be more curious if Strasburg would accept a trade to Seattle, and whether they could get a couple healthy years out of him.

        Thought this was a good read on the Soto trade;

Both armchair and real MLB GMs utilize John Bitzer's website to get a sense of what returns their teams can expect in potential deals.

Totally agree that the Cards and Padres can put the best package together.

Just from an Ms fans perspective, I think they can and would eat Strasburg or Corbins deals.. but I'd hate to see Kirby as part of that package. He really looks like he has ace stuff.

I thought from the start that St. Louis was the wildcard in this. I think they're the clear front runners but I wouldn't count out the Yankees. The Judge contract is a real issue and you could lessen the blow with acquiring Soto.

I really hope the Cardinals don't get involved in the Soto sweepstakes. Hitting isn't going to keep this team out of the playoffs or from making a deep October run, its going to be pitching.

That should be the only focus of the front office. That and a battery mate for Andrew Knizner because I think Yadi's health (knees) is going to be an issue the remainder of the season.

Thats what I enjoyed about that article. It nailed the mega-market teams strategies.

The Yankees don't give away their best prospects. They need them to offset their ridiculous spending. History bears that out.

Name a great prospect they've traded last decade? Definitely can't find one the last 5 years. Outside of Judge, name a prospect from their farm that has hit, *PERIOD*

I just don't think the Yankees have the ammo, even if they were to part with Volpe and Dominguez. Not when you compare their package to what other teams, seemingly, will offer.

The salary dump is a big deal too. As the article highlighted, the Yanks and Dodgers aren't going to be too eager to take on Strasburg or Corbins deals AND give away their entire farm.

Cardinals lost 10-3 last night to the Blue Jays so naturally the front office is eager to get more offense so that we can lose 10-7.

Cardinals are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of Juan Soto and are willing to include Nolan Gorman in the return package as well as take on Patrick Corbin's bad contract.

I haven't seen the entire return but have heard:

                    Matthew Liberatore
                    Nolan Gorman
                    Dylan Carlson

All to get Soto and likely Patrick Corbin who do nothing to better this team towards a deep October run. And then you're stuck with Corbin's contract for what another 2 seasons? Add that to what you're paying Arenado and Goldy and you're cash strapping yourself this offseason unless you start unloading these guys. Its stupid.

The Cardinals need pitching, and if you're willing to give up that type of haul then you go after a marquee pitcher or few that fulfill the teams biggest weakness.

I understand that Soto is a dynamic player that can hit, but don't understand him being the prime target and sacrificing your future when the teams biggest need is pitching.

I'm hoping and praying that the Dodgers, Padres, or Yankees find a way to put a package together that persuades the Nationals to deal Soto to them.

The Padres are the only team that can rival the Cardinals (rumored) package, IMO.

If the Dodgers don't want to see Soto in their division, maybe they go crazy... but after the Sherzer-Turner trade last year, don't you think the Nats raided all the top prospects they wanted from them?.. I'm really not buying their deal over StL or SD. Not unless they really overpay.

I laugh (hysterically) every time I read about the Yankees. Volpe, Dominguez, and Gleyber Torres.. and who else? It reminds me of NFL fans wanting their team to sign every big name free agent. They just don't have the horses here. Not without deconstructing peices of their MLB roster, which is counterproductive, however much everyone would enjoy that dream outfield.

I want Seattle to be in on this BADLY. Soto and Julio together? Even if it was only for 3 pennant runs.. thats a pretty good recepe to forget decades of absolute futility. And DiPoto might be able to leverage that into an extension.

I think Kirby would be the key to an Ms deal. I'd hate to see him dealt. But I think thats the only way they could compete with the package the Cards and Padres can put together.

Anthony Volpe, Jasson Dominguez, Oswald Peraza, Austin Wells, and Ken Waldichuk are all Top 100 prospects.

Then you have guys like Luis Medina, Hayden Wesneski, Luis Gil, Trey Sweeney, and Everson Pereira, amongst others.

The Yankees have the pieces to be a contender in the Juan Soto sweepstakes if they want to be.

Yankees absolutely have the prospects to match. You keep mentioning Volpe and Dominguez. But no mention of Peraza Waldichuk and Wells. All top 100 prospects. Peraza is closer to the majors then Volpe and Dominguez. He's been red hot too . Wells has a great bat for a catcher. This is no slight at you. But Peraza Volpe and Dominguez would be a hell of a haul for anyone. And they have the icing to put on top if need be.

Now I personally don't want Soto. I want Castillo and it won't be as steep of asking price for Soto. It really just comes down to what the Nats want in return.

I'm not buying they will move Volpe or Dominguez. They need players like that to balance their spending.

I don't buy their farm, period. They're the last team I'd deal with looking at the last decade. Other than Judge, they haven't really developed anyone.
