No words in the English language for how awful the Mariners hitting was tonight.

Giants/Padres game tonight was a real throwback game...Logan Webb threw a complete game. Leading 2-1 in the 9th he gave up back to back singles to start the inning, but Kapler left him out there and he got out of it. Fun to watch...

This year’s NL Cy Young race is going to be an interesting case of old vs new. On the one hand, Blake Snell has the lowest ERA and has been so hard to hit. On the other, he “only” has 14 wins and leads the world in walks. His xFIP is also 3.62.

Spencer Strider has all the K’s, the wins (could end up being only 20 game winner this year), but his ERA is 3.81 and would be highest ever to win it. On the other hand, Strider has had an xFIP of 2.90.

I have no problem with Snell winning it…if he played for the Braves he might have 20-25 wins. I’m more interested to see how voters view this one since there is such a mix of new/old going on with both of them.

Yeah, I'm not sure I've ever seen such a contrast between the top 2 candidates (apologies to Justin Steele). Their WAR totals are miles apart, depending on which version you favour.

No pitcher moaned and complained about the pitch clock like Snell did, and he was brutal in the 1st 2 months of the season. (I had him in my fantasy league and came close to ditching him.) And then he just completely flipped the switch and has been bulletproof ever since:

          Before May 20 (9 starts): 1-6, 5.40 ERA, 49/27 K/BB
          After May 20 (23 starts): 13-3, 1.54 ERA, 186/72 K/BB

And as you mentioned, Snell leads the league (and the Majors) in walks. The last Cy Young winner to lead the league in walks was Early Wynn in 1959!

Jays/Yankees tied at 0 going into the 9th.

So Jays put in their closer in a non save situation when his last game 3 days ago was a blown save and their manager admitted wasn't 100% going into that game.

So naturally he goes in today and loses it for them.

ok, so, you got me to google a bit about Early Wynn, mostly because he has a fun name, and I see not only did he get 300 wins on the dot, he also had 100 IBBs on the dot, and every search string I use to try and figure out which pitcher threw the most IBBs, it always comes back to Bonds, not helpful.

idunno why I was curious about this lol I was going somewhere and lost my train of thought and decided to click submit reply anyway

random edit: he also had 1,796 ER and 1,775 walks, which for some reason was interesting enough to me to make this random edit

Iconic Pirates reliever Kent Tekulve is the all-time leader in IBB issued (179).

#2 all-time is Greg Maddux (!!!), meaning the best control pitcher of our lifetimes was even better than he gets credited for.

What a ridiculous rule; clear foul ball on check swing that umps rule a passed ball. Cubs score a run, but apparently you are not allowed to challenge/review it? Why?

Yankees been playing damn good baseball since late August. Best in the league. Our ******* front office waited too damn long to call up the kids and make adjustments. or they might be in the playoffs.

They weren't going anywhere though. But still would be nice to be playing in October.

Looks like Cole locked down the AL CY tonight though. So much for the spidertack crap. The only really good signing Cashman has made in a while.
